TIDORE KEPULAUAN TOPS INDONESIA’S ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY INDEX FOR 2023
Tidore Kepulauan Leads the Way in Environmental Sustainability, with Palu Notable for Significant Improvement
The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (Kementerian LHK) has officially released the annual Environmental Quality Index (IKLH) for 2023, which measures the environmental quality achievements of cities across Indonesia. This year, the city of Tidore Kepulauan, located in North Maluku, has claimed the top spot as the city with the best environmental quality in Indonesia, earning an impressive score of 80.54—an improvement from last year’s score of 77.48.
The IKLH evaluates cities across various environmental aspects, including Air Quality Index, Water Quality Index, Land Quality Index, and Marine Water Quality Index. The increase in Tidore Kepulauan’s score highlights significant progress in environmental management and sustainability in the region.
Among the top ten cities, the most notable improvement was seen in Palu, which rose from a score of 69.03 in 2022 to 76.50 in 2023, reflecting notable strides in enhancing the city's environmental conditions.
However, the lowest environmental quality scores were still recorded in several cities on the island of Java, with North Jakarta at the bottom of the list with a score of 40.78, followed by Cimahi with 44.65.
