In a heartfelt celebration of unity, freedom, and forward-looking diplomacy, Mozambique’s 50th Independence Day was commemorated in Jakarta on Friday, July 11, 2025. The event, hosted by the Embassy of Mozambique, welcomed distinguished guests and officials, including Indonesia’s Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning and Head of the National Land Agency, Nusron Wahid, who attended as the guest of honor.

Speaking on behalf of the Indonesian government, Minister Nusron emphasized the importance of this golden jubilee as more than a historical milestone—it was a moment to reenergize collaborative efforts between the two nations.
“Indonesia is committed to deepening cooperation with Mozambique. Let us explore new opportunities, face global challenges together, and build a future that is prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable,” he said.

Indonesia and Mozambique have enjoyed diplomatic relations for over three decades, with significant progress in recent years. A pivotal moment occurred in 2023 during the President of Indonesia’s official visit to Mozambique, which paved the way for strengthened cooperation in trade, energy, and infrastructure development.

One of the most impactful achievements of this bilateral relationship is the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA), which came into effect in 2022. Mozambique became the first African country to sign such an agreement with Indonesia, opening up promising trade opportunities and enhancing economic growth for both nations.

Mozambican Ambassador Belmiro Malate delivered a moving tribute during the ceremony, underscoring the historical and ongoing importance of global solidarity.
“Our gratitude today is not only for the past we have shared but also for the journey that continues,” he said, highlighting the legacy of support from friendly nations and the enduring commitment to peace and progress.

Beyond the formalities, the golden jubilee served as a vibrant reminder that independence is not only about reclaiming the past, but also about shaping the future. Through shared values and strategic cooperation, Indonesia and Mozambique are poised to build a partnership that continues to flourish in the years ahead.
