Four young Indonesians walked into one of Europe's most competitive student diplomacy stages  and walked out with certificates that most delegates from any country never get to hold.

At EuroMUN 2026, held in Maastricht, the Netherlands, four scholars from the Beswan Djarum scholarship program represented Indonesia and came home with awards across multiple committees. This wasn't a local competition or a regional warm-up. EuroMUN draws university students from around the world who debate real global issues in a simulated United Nations format  in English, under pressure, in front of judges who expect precision.

What Is EuroMUN and Why Does It Matter ?

EuroMUN, short for European Model United Nations, is an annual international conference hosted in Maastricht, the Netherlands. Students from dozens of countries compete by representing nations, drafting resolutions, and debating issues ranging from NATO security to global disarmament. Awards like Best Delegate are given to participants who demonstrate the strongest command of diplomacy, negotiation, public speaking, and leadership throughout the event.

For Indonesian students, earning recognition at EuroMUN is especially notable  English is not their first language, the competition format is unfamiliar compared to most local academic programs, and most competitors come from universities in Europe or North America with longer MUN traditions.

Who Are the Four Beswan Djarum Scholars?

The students who represented Indonesia at EuroMUN 2026 came from four different universities across the country, brought together under the Beswan Djarum scholarship umbrella  a program run by the Bakti Pendidikan Djarum Foundation that supports high-achieving Indonesian university students with mentorship, training, and opportunity.

Rebecca Raphael Angelica Simorangkir from Universitas Sanata Dharma took home the Best Delegate award in the DISEC (Disarmament and International Security) Committee. Nisriina Alyaa from Universitas Brawijaya also earned Best Delegate, representing Indonesia in the NATO Committee. Calista Trina Winata from Universitas Padjadjaran received an Honourable Mention, while Lenka Melinda Florienka from Politeknik Negeri Malang earned a Verbal Commendation.

Four delegates. Four awards. Zero losses.

The Part That Will Surprise You
Here's the counterintuitive detail: neither Rebecca nor Nisriina studied international relations or political science. Rebecca, who won Best Delegate at DISEC competing against delegates from across the globe, said it plainly: "Walaupun bukan berlatar belakang jurusan hubungan internasional, saya sangat bersyukur bisa bersaing dan meraih prestasi terbaik di antara delegasi lain yang datang dari berbagai negara."

Translation: even without an international relations background, she was grateful to compete and achieve at the highest level against delegates from many countries.

That's not humility for the caption. That's a signal that the gap between Indonesian talent and global opportunity is smaller than most people think  when the right support structure exists.

What the Beswan Djarum Program Actually Does

Beswan Djarum is not just a scholarship. It's a development ecosystem. Beyond covering tuition, the program provides soft skills training, leadership workshops, networking with alumni who've gone on to senior roles in business and government, and  critically  access to international experiences like EuroMUN that would otherwise be financially or logistically out of reach for most Indonesian university students.

The program has been running for decades and has produced alumni across sectors from banking to NGOs to academia. EuroMUN 2026 is the latest in a long line of moments where Beswan scholars punch above their weight on a global stage.

Nisriina Alyaa, Best Delegate in the NATO Committee, described the experience in a way that cuts through the usual award-ceremony language: "Ini merupakan pengalaman sekali seumur hidup yang saya tahu betul tidak akan terulang, dan saya bersyukur bisa mendapatkan prestasi terbaik di kompetisi berskala internasional dengan seluruh pendampingan yang diberikan."

Once-in-a-lifetime. That's what the right program, meeting the right person, at the right moment looks like.
