INDONESIAN FASHION JUST CRASHED THE OSAKA WORLD EXPO 2025 — AND THE WORLD’S PAYING ATTENTION
From ancient weaving traditions to global runways, LAKON Indonesia’s electrifying showcase at Osaka World Expo 2025 proves that heritage can be reimagined, sustainability can be stylish, and Indonesian fashion is ready to claim its spot on the world stage.

Imagine centuries-old weaving traditions from Indonesia colliding with cutting-edge fashion innovation on one of the world’s biggest stages. That’s exactly what happened when LAKON Indonesia took over the runway at the Osaka World Expo 2025 — and they didn’t just “show up.” They owned it.
On 8 August 2025, the crowd at the Unified Diversity Fashion Show – SOROYURU witnessed something unforgettable. The theme — “harmony in differences” — was brought to life with LAKON’s jaw-dropping collection inspired by the timeless beauty of Nusa Tenggara Barat’s handwoven textiles. Picture intricate traditional patterns, but flipped with a bold, modern twist.
And here’s the kicker — this wasn’t just a solo act. LAKON teamed up with Hong Kong’s sustainable textile game-changer, Comfiknit, proving that fashion can be both heritage-rich and future-focused. “This is more than a show; it’s proof that Indonesia’s creative ecosystem has a voice the world wants to hear,” said Thresia Mareta, LAKON’s founder and advisor for JF3.
But LAKON’s Osaka takeover didn’t stop at the runway. Between 4–10 August, they joined forces with JF3 Fashion Festival to spotlight three rising brands — Senses, Apakabar, and Fuguku — at the Indonesian Pavilion. Then, from 7–13 August, they hit the streets with a pop-up store at Lucua Umeda, one of Osaka’s most high-end shopping hubs, letting locals touch, feel, and fall in love with Indonesian design.
Fashion insiders took notice too. Sharing the Soroyuru spotlight with Thresia was legendary Japanese designer Shinshiro Mizuno, whose résumé includes working with Givenchy, John Galliano, and Alexander McQueen. That’s right — Indonesian craftsmanship shared the stage with some of the biggest names in global fashion history.
This wasn’t just a cultural showcase. It was a flex. A bold statement that Indonesian fashion doesn’t just belong in the conversation — it’s helping write the future of it. And with ABC TV Japan broadcasting the event to millions, the message is clear: the world is ready for more Indonesia.
So, if you thought “fashion diplomacy” was just a buzzword, think again. LAKON Indonesia just turned it into a movement — and this is only the beginning.
