Before "Island Girl" lands on September 18, the Indonesian girl group under 88rising gave fans eight songs, two cities, and one very long speaker.

You don't usually get a trailer for an album. NONA made one anyway, and it's longer than most people's commute.

On Friday, the four-member group released "speaker freaker (the long song)," a work running about 13 minutes and 6 seconds that folds eight separate tracks into a single continuous video. Two of those songs, "rollerblade" and "work," are already viral hits; the rest are previews of songs nobody has heard yet.

This is the run-up to NONA Speaker Freaker, and more importantly, to the group's debut album, Island Girl, out September 18 under 88rising, the label also known for Rich Brian and 88rising's wider roster of Asian pop acts.

Who is NONA, and what did they just release?

NONA is a four-member Indonesian pop group  Baila, Shaz, Christy, and Esther  signed to 88rising. On September 11, 2026, they released "Speaker Freaker (The Long Song)," a nearly 13-minute audiovisual piece combining eight songs, ahead of their 15-track debut album "Island Girl," which arrives September 18, 2026.

The video wasn't shot in one studio. It moves through Jakarta and Yogyakarta, and the sound design leans hard into things Indonesian listeners will recognize instantly: the clang of ceng-ceng cymbals, gamelan textures woven into one track, and the honk of an angkot horn sampled straight into a song called "Honk!"  a nod to the viral "Om Telolet Om" moment.

"Indonesian culture has always been at the heart of no na's identity, aligning with the group's name, which is inspired from the word nona, meaning young woman," the group said in a statement issued by 88rising in Jakarta.

What is the "Island Pop" sound? 

NONA has been describing their genre as Island Pop  a mix that pulls from 1980s R&B, dangdut, new jack swing, and synth-funk, layered over tropical, distinctly Indonesian production choices. It's less a single genre and more a mood board turned into music.

Here's the surprising part: this isn't a small local act finding an audience slowly. Since their first single dropped in May 2025, NONA's catalog has crossed half a billion streams, charted globally, and racked up more than 1.1 billion YouTube views and nearly 5 billion TikTok views. That's a scale most Indonesian acts, in any genre, haven't touched.

What's on the debut album? 

"Island Girl" will carry 15 tracks, including "star," "seafood diet," "smooth," "island girl," "rollerblade," "rollerblade part two," "work," "honk!," "dizzy," "chaser," "party in the +62," "speaker freaker," "nick of time," "durian," and "better on the island." Thematically, the record sits around romance, femininity, and friendship, with an artwork concept where each member strikes a different traditional Indonesian hand-dance pose.

NONA has also been visible off-stage, fronting campaigns for brands including Tiffany & Co., and they recently became the first Indonesian group to perform a live, one-take, unedited vocal session on Japan's THE FIRST TAKE  a platform normally reserved for major J-pop and global acts.

Whether "Island Girl" lands the way its rollout suggests, we'll know in less than a week.
