KOPI KENANGAN X MIKAEL JASIN LAUNCHES THE SECOND LIGHT COFFEE SERIES WITH BUMI FLORES LOW ACIDITY COFFEE BEANS
Kopi Kenangan launched its latest product in collaboration with the international barista, Mikael Jasin, for its Light Coffee Series.
Kopi Kenangan, under PT Bumi Berkah Boga, is founded by Edward Tirtanata, James Prananto, and Cynthia Khaerunnisa in 2017. Currently one of the largest local coffee chains, the company sold three million cups of beverage monthly in 2020. The number of stores doubled from 224 to 422 in the same year.
To serve different segments of consumers, the company opened an upscale outlet known as Kopi Kenangan Reserve or Kenangan Heritage in 2021 at Senayan City Mall, Central Jakarta. As of February 2022, the store already has 630 outlets spread in 45 different cities in Indonesia. The brand works on continuous development with its menu, including the Light Coffee Series.
Light Coffee Series as Indonesian coffee-lovers solution
Gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD is a common disease affecting one in five adult men and women. Nowadays, it also occurs to children. Although common, the disease is often unrecognized — its symptoms are misunderstood.
GERD happens when stomach acid flows back into the tube connecting the mouth and esophagus. This backwash is called acid reflux and can irritate the lining of the esophagus.
Given that Indonesia is among the top coffee-consuming nations, GERD can be prompted by coffee. Data from the International Coffee Organisation (ICO) shows that Indonesians consume around 4,800 bags of coffee.
Meanwhile, Kopi Kenangan in collaboration with international Barista Mikael Jasin released their newest coffee product, the Light Coffee series, made with Bumi Flores beans which is a coffee with low acidity.
Mikael won fourth place at the 2019 World Barista Championship in Boston, United States. He started his coffee journey in 2012 in Melbourne, Australia. From working at a coffee shop, now he owns two coffee consultant companies, So So Good Coffee Company and Catur Coffee Company, which also accepts coffee imports and exports.
While many people are prone to GERD, this product might just be the answer to coffee lovers with the symptoms.
More about Light Coffee Series
Coffee, if consumed in the right amount, has multiple benefits. Scientific research suggests that caffeine in coffee could improve memory and stimulate energy. Caffeine also has antioxidant properties which reduce the risk of colon cancer.
Light coffee series is a series of coffee beverages made with low acidity of Arabica coffee beans. The first series was initially launched last April featuring coffee beans from Banjarnegara Central Java. Currently, Bumi Flores is the second new arabica bean for the series.
The beans are locally sourced from farmers at Flores, East Nusa Tenggara. They are planted 1,400 to 1,500 meters above sea level. The beans that boost the chocolaty, cedarwood, and brown sugar aroma can be the alternative solution for coffee lovers with GERD.
While coffee is not as acidic as beer or soda, drinking multiple cups could accumulate acidity. Meanwhile, Arabica beans contain lower amounts of caffeine compared to regular coffee beans, typically robusta beans, used by coffee shops.
Kopi Kenangan's light coffee series is available on online orders and in-store purchases. Most of the menus of the regular coffee are now available in the light coffee version.
