In a collaborative effort, LETSS Talk (Let's Talk about Sex n Sexualities), Konde.co, and Padepokan Perempuan GAIA have organized the 1st Annual Kartini Conference on Indonesian Feminisms (KCIF 2023).

The conference, held virtually from Thursday to Sunday, July 20 to 23, 2023, via Zoom, revolves around the theme "Celebrating and Strengthening Plural and Inclusive Indonesian Feminism," according to a press release received by Tempo.

The primary goal of the KCIF is to foster discussions on plural and inclusive perspectives in feminism, while creating a platform for sharing knowledge on research and studies related to various themes of Indonesian feminism. Diah Irawaty, Conference Chair from LETSS Talk, emphasized that KCIF aims to introduce and disseminate feminist knowledge, especially research results and grassroots activism, in the Indonesian context.

"The conference also serves as an academic space for exchanging knowledge, preparing materials for publication in journals, conference proceedings, and books, and facilitating meetings and interactions among various elements of the Indonesian feminist movement for its strengthening and consolidation," stated Diah.

Utilizing online communication technology like Zoom, KCIF 2023 ensures that feminist thoughts and Kartini's ideals are widely accessible to the public across generations and islands in Indonesia.

The conference is expected to attract approximately 800 participants from diverse backgrounds, including academics, students, researchers, activists, housewives, survivors of domestic violence, and representatives from different generations of the feminist movement.

The event will also welcome participants from overseas, representing countries such as the United States, Britain, Tunisia, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Malaysia, and Australia.

KCIF aims to become a new tradition as an annual Indonesian feminist conference, providing a platform for ongoing discussions on the development of feminist thinking in the country.

Diah concluded by expressing the conference's commitment to inclusivity, with specific sessions being equipped with a Sign Language Interpreter (JBI) to ensure participation for deaf individuals.
