BLACKPINK'S LISA HITS NEW SPOTIFY RECORD WITH 'MONEY'
She broke her own group's record.
Lisa from Blackpink has established a new Spotify record with "Money", the B-side hit from her debut solo album, "Lalisa". Lisa's label, YG Entertainment, said on December 30 that "Money" had achieved 300 million streams on Spotify, the world's largest music streaming platform.
This incredible achievement was accomplished in 112 days, beginning with the song's debut on September 10 of this year. Lisa's song was the fastest to attain this milestone among all K-pop solo artists' tracks. Previously, Blackpink's Jennie had topped 300 million Spotify streams in around 960 days with her single "Solo".
Furthermore, "Lalisa" debuted at number 84 on the Billboard Hot 100 list and number TWO on the Billboard Global 200 chart. "Money" reached number ten on the Billboard Global 200 list (October 23, 2021), becoming Lisa's second top-ten global hit. The exclusive performance video for "Money" also surpassed 300 million views on YouTube in November, a feat accomplished in just over two months.

Solo venture: success and criticism
YG Entertainment announced on August 25, 2021, that Lisa would make her solo debut with a single album named Lalisa, after her given name.
When asked in an interview as to why she had chosen to name her album "Lalisa", she explained, "I wanted to show the coolest side of myself through [the album]. I wanted to show myself, Lalisa, exactly as I am, which is why I ended up using this title."
"Money" was confirmed as the B-side track on the tracklist of the single album. On September 10, the song was released alongside the album, and a music video was published on September 24.
Following its debut, "Money" started trending on TikTok and Instagram Reels in the form of dance covers, transformation edits, and Squid Game edits and began to surge in the worldwide rankings. In reaction to its viral popularity, Interscope Records submitted the song to U.S. contemporary hit radio as the album's second single on November 9, 2021.
The lyrics were written by Vince and American singer-songwriter Bekuh Boom, and the music was created by them, together with 24 and R. Tee. Lyrically, it's a boastful song about being wealthy and wasting money. The song is written in the key of E minor, with a pace of 140 beats per minute, and is classified as a powerful hip-hop tune. Billboard's Nolan Feeney said that the song's melody is similar to "contemporary American rap" and is "built around a languid horn loop".
"Money" garnered mixed to excellent reviews, with Lisa's performance and rapping receiving applause; nonetheless, the song's production and lyrical matter were panned by some. NME's Rhian Daly called the lyrics "cringe-y at best" and the music "obvious, safe, and boring".
In a more favorable review, Billboard's Starr Bowenbank wrote that the song demonstrates the "full extent of her rap skills, star power, and crossover appeal." Maddy Meyer, writing for Teen Vogue, noted that "from the start, this song draws the listener in" and that it "has all the confidence Lisa is known for".
Lisa made her debut in 2016 as a member of the South Korean girl group Blackpink, under YG Entertainment, with the single album "Square One". The group is the highest-charting female Korean act on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard 200. "The Album", their 2020 release, was also the first album by a Korean female group to sell over one million copies.

In October, she teamed with international musicians such as DJ Snake, OZUN, and Megan Thee Stallion on the English-Spanish bass-heavy hit "SG".
Lisa is the third Blackpink member to release a solo album, following Jennie and Rosé.
