Going to an authentic coffee shop can sometimes be troubling. Not only that they offer dozens of different types of coffees, but sometimes it is because we are too shy to ask the barista the differences between a flat white and a latte.

With the various menus, it can be confusing to decide which one fits our taste the most. This is not just a problem for new coffee drinkers, but as many hardcore addicts can often stick to only what they know despite the other types of coffee that may suit them better.

From affogato to short macchiato, we are here to collect the ultimate guide to different coffee types so you won't need to worry about asking the barista anymore.

Espresso

Espresso is a single shot of coffee, also known as a short black. No extra hot water is added which makes the drink an intense coffee drink. An espresso shot forms the basis of many other coffee drinks to follow. It is produced by forcing hot water through finely-ground coffee beans. Indonesian typically drink espresso added with milk or sweeteners to reduce its bitter flavor.

Doppio

Doppio is a double shot of espresso. Similar to espresso, it is usually not added with hot water or milk, but it ultimately comes back to preferences. The name, Doppio, comes from the Italian word 'double'.

Ristretto

Ristretto is a shot of espresso but extracted with half amount of water which results in a concentrated shot. The word ristretto comes from the Italian word which means restricted. This type of coffee is commonly enjoyed straight or combined with milk.

Cappuccino

One of the most famous ones is Cappuccino. Cappuccino is one part espresso shot, one part milk, and another part froth on top usually drizzled with shredded chocolate sprinkles to finish.

Mocha

Mocha is a coffee espresso combined with steamed milk and with a layer of foamed milk cream, often called latte, but added with the sweetness of chocolate. Mocha can be prepared by adding the chocolate flavoring before adding the milk or before the frothing.

Affogato

Affogato is a combination of a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a double shot of hot espresso or doppio. This type of coffee is recommended to be enjoyed post-lunch or dinner treat.

Cold Drip

Cold drip coffee is similar to the regular coffee brewed in a pour-over device. The difference is, as its name suggests, that it uses cold water in the process which results in a longer time.
