Who said classical music is boring? Certainly not the hundreds of young music lovers who filled Shoemaker Studios last night for Hungarian Melodies, a genre-blending musical experience that proved once again: harmony knows no age—and great music speaks every language.

Presented by the Embassy of Hungary, House of Piano, and the EU Delegation to Indonesia, the fully booked event brought together a trio of talent that stole the show: Miyuji Kaneko, the half-Hungarian, half-Japanese pianist known for his electrifying interpretations; Mia Ismi, the Indonesian vocalist whose crystal-clear tones gave the classics a modern soul; and the energetic Jakarta Youth Choir, who turned every note into a celebration.

From soaring solos to moving ensemble moments, the evening felt like a playlist of emotions—heartfelt, dramatic, joyful. And it wasn’t just the performers who stole hearts. The audience, made up largely of Gen Z and young professionals, brought energy that rivaled any arena concert. Phones were out, not to scroll, but to capture every moment (respectfully, of course).

Even before the first note played, hype was building online. Personalized video greetings from the performers—shared on social media days before the event—added a personal, almost cinematic vibe that had fans counting down the days.

And now? FOMO is real for those who missed it.

While the event may be over, the message it sent echoes on: classical music isn’t stuck in the past—it’s very much alive, and it’s speaking directly to the next generation.
