Airports in Indonesia are also included in the list of the 100 best airports.


The pandemic situation has affected many travel sectors, one of which is airports. For more than a year, the world of travel has changed, and it has been challenging to adapt to the virus.

The consulting company, Skytrax, held an annual survey to determine the best airport amid the uncertain pandemic situation at the 2021 World Airport Awards. The award, which has been going on since 1999, evaluates customer service and facilities at more than 500 airports in the world.

The result for this year is Hamad International Airport, which won the title of World Best Airport 2021. This Doha, Qatar international airport managed to meet the Skytrax criteria, which conducted a survey from August 2020 to July 2021 to visitors to the web who were recorded to come from more than 100 countries around the world.

Some of the topics asked of respondents included access to the airport such as easy vehicle options, terminal comfort and design, cleanliness, seating facilities, immigration services, check-in facilities and queuing systems. In addition, they were also asked about the clarity and ease of getting information, directions at the terminal, staff friendliness, lounge services, and other services needed by airport users when travelling.

In addition, this year, several survey questions were also added regarding the condition of the Covid-19 pandemic. The questions included instructions for health services or information services related to Covid-19, mandatory use of masks, social distancing markers, the presence of hand sanitisers, hygienic procedures at security checks, and cleanliness of terminal terminals.

Hamad International Airport is a connecting airport for flights from Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and America. Travellers can obtain various services, including restaurants, gyms, fitness centres, premium boutiques, and resting places that can be enjoyed free of charge.

Hamad International Airport also received awards as the Best Airport in the Middle East, the World's Best Airport in the 25 to 35 million Passenger category, and the Best Airport Staff in the Middle East. The airport, which was inaugurated in 2014 at the 2020 award, is in third place.

In this year's list of winners, the second place is Tokyo Haneda Airport. The third place is given to Singapore Changi Airport, which won last year.

The list ranks fourth by Incheon International Airport, the fifth is Narita International Airport, the sixth is Munich Airport, and the seventh is Zurich Airport. The ranked eighth is London Heathrow Airport, ninth is Kansai International Airport, and the tenth is Hong Kong International Airport.

Another award given in this survey is the World Most Improved Airport in 2021, which was given to Istanbul Airport, which last year was in position 102 to position 17 in 2021. Changi Airport, which is often the winner in this survey, received a title in the category of World Best Airport in the 10 to 15 million Passengers, World's Best Airport Staff, and the Best Airport Staff in Asia.

Indonesian airports are also included in Skytrax's list of the 100 best airports in 2021. Jakarta's Soekarno Hatta Airport is ranked 34th, move up one place from the 2020 results. In addition, the international airport received the Covid-19 Airport Excellence award. Bali's Ngurah Rai Airport is in position 82, up from 85 in last year's award.
