INDONESIA’S YOUNG GYMNAST HEROES GEAR UP FOR THE WORLD STAGE — CAN THEY BREAK INTO THE GLOBAL TOP 20?
Jakarta’s energy is rising as Indonesia’s gymnasts dive into their first training sessions for the 2025 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships. With new equipment, fierce rivals, and home-court pride at stake, the countdown to glory has officially begun.
The rhythmic sound of vaults and bars echoed through the Jakarta International Convention Center this week, marking the first official training day for Indonesia’s male gymnastics team ahead of the 2025 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships. Set to take place at the Indonesia Arena from October 19–25, the event will see over 80 nations competing for gold — and Indonesia is ready to make its mark.
Five male gymnasts — Abiyu Raffi, Muhammad Aprizal, Satria Tri Wira Yudha, Agung Suci Tantio Akbar, and Joseph Judah Hatoguan — were the first to take to the mats on Wednesday afternoon (October 15). It wasn’t just a local affair; athletes from Australia, Denmark, Hong Kong, Venezuela, and Japan were also seen testing out the brand-new equipment that will be used in competition.
“Everyone’s adapting — the apparatus is new, some are slippery, some need more magnesium — that’s part of the process,” explained Ferrous One Willyodac, Indonesia’s men’s team coach. “The boys are doing great. They’re focused, healthy, and ready to give their all when the championship begins.”
For the gymnasts, this is more than just a warm-up — it’s a home-soil battle against the world’s best. Powerhouses China and Japan are once again expected to dominate the podium, but the Indonesian squad has their eyes set on something big: breaking into the Top 20 globally.
It’s an ambitious but grounded goal — and with the crowd behind them, the energy in Jakarta might just be the secret weapon they need.
This year’s championship is also a milestone moment for Indonesia itself. Hosting an event of this scale not only puts the nation in the global gymnastics spotlight but also ignites a spark for the next generation of athletes.
So, whether you’re a sports fan or just love rooting for local heroes, keep your eyes on the floor routines and high bars — because Indonesia’s gymnasts are flipping into history.
