Martabak durian, a culinary legend in North Aceh Regency, has become a gastronomic creation not only popular in Aceh but also extending its reach to various regions across Indonesia. The combination of savory dough and durian flesh as its filling makes martabak durian a favorite choice among culinary enthusiasts.

Similar to other types of martabak, martabak durian is made using a base of canai bread dough made from wheat flour. It is then filled with luscious durian and grilled on a flat pan.

The savory taste of canai bread complements the sweetness of durian, creating a delightful fusion of flavors.

One of the locations renowned for serving the distinctive martabak durian is along the main route from Medan to Banda Aceh, precisely at Pasar Geudong, North Aceh Regency. Passersby are tempted to stop by the enticing aroma of durian emanating from various modest stalls along the roadside.

Every stall offering martabak durian prominently displays fresh durians in front of their carts.

One of the busiest stalls is "Martabak Durian Samudera Pase." This stall has been open since the 1980s, starting as a family consumption spot and evolving into a culinary business.

For only Rp10,000, durian lovers can enjoy a serving of martabak durian and various other durian delicacies at the same price, such as durian juice, durian ice, durian fruit soup, durian pancakes, durian glutinous rice, and mixed durian ice.

Its strategic location along the Medan-Banda Aceh route makes this culinary delight a stopover for travelers or visitors from outside Aceh. Upon entering the stall, one can see visitors from various regions and age groups enjoying the array of durian dishes available.

Mariani, a visitor from Banda Aceh, never misses the opportunity to savor the culinary specialties of North Aceh. Along with her family, she stops by to enjoy the renowned martabak durian, known for its deliciousness at an affordable price.

"It wouldn't feel complete to be in North Aceh without enjoying martabak durian before continuing our journey," expressed Mariani, a visitor from Banda Aceh earlier this week.

Simultaneously, M. Nur, a visitor from Panton Labu, North Aceh, also took the time to stop by after hearing about the martabak durian in Geudong Pase.

"We were traveling along the Medan-Banda Aceh route, and we stopped here briefly because we heard this place is famous for its durian martabak," said the man from Panton Labu.

Martabak durian has become a culinary heritage from North Aceh that should be further developed. Its increasing popularity beyond Aceh is evidence of its deliciousness.
