INDONESIA TRAVEL TRENDS Q3 2026: WHY MECCA, WONOSOBO AND PHú QUốC ARE PULLING AHEAD
Indonesia travel trends Q3 2026: Mecca stays up 50%+, Garut searches up 48%, and Phú Quốc and Chongqing are rising fast. Here’s the data.
Two very different trips grew at the same time this summer. Indonesians booked cool mountain stays in Wonosobo. They also booked hotels in Mecca, and stayed longer. Together, they are the clearest sign of Indonesia travel trends Q3 2026: people are no longer picking one kind of trip.
At a glance
- 104.3 million: domestic trips in August 2026 (up 11.47% year on year)
- 50%+: growth in Indonesia-to-Mecca hotel bookings
- 48%: rise in searches for Garut
- 64%: rise in Singapore-to-Bandung searches
What Is the Traveloka SEA Index Q3 2026?
Traveloka is a Southeast Asian travel platform. The Traveloka SEA Index is its quarterly report on travel trends in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The Q3 2026 edition covers bookings and searches from July 1 to September 30, 2026, and was released in Jakarta on October 14, 2026. It tracks growth, so the headline numbers show which places are rising fastest, not which are biggest.
How Big Is Domestic Travel Right Now?
Big. The Ministry of Tourism (Kementerian Pariwisata) counted 104.3 million domestic trips in August 2026. That is 11.47 percent more than the same month last year.
West Java led with 18.7 million trips. Central Java followed with 13.8 million.
What Are the Biggest Indonesia Travel Trends in Q3 2026?

First, smaller towns are winning. Wonosobo, Magelang, Pangandaran, Sukabumi and Bukittinggi grew fastest among domestic destinations. Four of the five can be reached by road from big cities in Java.
Garut is the quiet standout. Searches for it jumped 48 percent year on year. It is known for its mountains, and the pattern points to travellers wanting cool air over city heat.

Second, religious and cultural trips are surging. Hotel bookings from Indonesia to Mecca rose more than 50 percent, and guests stayed longer. Mecca, Jeddah and Madinah ranked 7th, 9th and 10th among the fastest-growing international destinations from Indonesia.
Here is the part worth sharing: three of the top ten fastest-growing overseas destinations for Indonesians are Saudi cities.
The flow runs the other way too. Malaysian travellers booked more trips to Magelang, home of Borobudur Temple, and to Yogyakarta, the gateway to Prambanan Temple. This fits the government’s push to use temple areas for worship, religious tourism and heritage protection.
Third, Asia is calling. Phú Quốc (Vietnam), Chongqing, Hangzhou and Shenzhen (all China), and Nagoya (Japan) are the five fastest-growing international destinations from Indonesia. Three of the five are in China. Phú Quốc also led growth among new destinations across the region.
Indonesia is pulling visitors in as well. Searches from Singapore to Bandung rose 64 percent year on year.
What Should You Keep in Mind About This Data?
Traveloka says its rankings follow booking growth, not visitor numbers. A fast riser is not automatically a busy place. The data also counts transactions, not travellers or finished trips. And it cannot tell you why any one person travelled.
Still, the pattern is easy to read. Indonesians want options: a road trip to the hills, a long stay in a holy city, or a first visit to a new corner of Asia.
