Move over, Pixar and DreamWorks — Indonesia’s very own animated hero is going global. “Jumbo,” the record-breaking animated film that became the highest-grossing Indonesian movie of all time, has officially secured international distribution rights in 40 countries, marking a massive leap for the nation’s creative industry.

The announcement was made by Visinema during its Power Lunch event titled “Building Global Conversations Through Entertainment” on Wednesday (October 8, 2025). The film is set to reach audiences across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, and even Russia, expanding far beyond its earlier projection of just 17 countries.

“We built Jumbo with a long-term creative vision — one that could resonate across generations,” said Angga Dwimas Sasongko, CEO of Visinema and producer of Jumbo. “It’s not just an animated film. It’s a story about family, emotion, and universal values that connect people everywhere.”

And the results speak for themselves. Countries like Russia, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Singapore, the UAE, Vietnam, and Taiwan have already screened Jumbo, with more regions lined up for release in the coming months.

The film’s success is more than a cinematic milestone — it’s a cultural breakthrough. Director Ryan Adriandhy, who initially announced Jumbo’s 17-country release earlier this year, has seen the film surpass every expectation, proving that Indonesian storytelling can compete globally.

A New Era for Indonesian Animation
Behind Jumbo’s worldwide triumph lies a deeper message: the rise of Indonesia’s creative economy. According to Visinema’s presentation, young audiences are more engaged with cinema than ever. Data from SurV (April 2024) via Lokadata.id showed that 57% of youth regularly visit cinemas, and while horror remains the dominant genre, animation and drama each capture 17% of their attention — a promising sign for the future of creative storytelling.

Beyond the Big Screen
For Angga, Jumbo’s journey is only beginning. Visinema has already mapped out a long-term roadmap for expanding the Jumbo universe — including spin-offs, music collaborations, and merchandise — designed to transform the film into a full-fledged cultural IP ecosystem.

“The goal isn’t just to chase trends,” Angga added. “We want to build stories with a long breath — stories that can grow, evolve, and live in many forms of media. A film is not just a finished product; it’s a gateway for storytelling.”

As Indonesia’s animation industry gains global recognition, Jumbo stands as proof that powerful, heartfelt narratives can transcend borders — and that the next big global blockbuster might just come from Jakarta.

So the question now is not if Indonesian films can go global — but what’s next after Jumbo?
