American designer Virgil Abloh collaborates with messaging app Snapchat to create iconic virtual facemasks.


Living in pandemic time, wearing a face mask is mandatory. In tackling the 'new normal' trends, multimedia messaging app Snapchat and Off-White, a fashion label founded by American designer Virgil Abloh, released Lens Augmented Reality experience on March 31st, which becomes the beginning of a collaboration series in 2021.

Snapchat and Virgil work as a team to create Lens for Snapchatters so they can try iconic three face masks virtually. These face masks, called AR Off-White are inspired by the SS21 collection and can be purchased directly at

This AR Lens is developed as a virtual campaign for Snapchatters to keep wearing a face mask attractively and creatively, which aims to protect themselves and others around during COVID-19 pandemic. Snapchat always prioritizes the health and safety of its customers by giving Snapchatters to wear Off-White face masks provided in their Bitmoji Selfies to bridge how they express themselves in digital and real life.

  1. Open Snapchat
  2. Select Profile in the upper left corner
  3. Under 'Bitmoji', select 'Select Selfie' to select an Off-White face mask

This is the newest collaboration series from Snap X Artists, which has previously been collaborated with Damien Hirst, Christian Marclay, Alex Israel, and Harmony Korine used advanced technology to prove the merging of virtual and real-world are able to give creativity and self-expression for new audiences.
