The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy launched the 2023 Indonesian Tourism Village Award (ADWI). In this third year of implementation, ADWI 2023 has the theme "World Class Tourism for Indonesia to Rise."

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno revealed that his party is targeting 4,000 tourist villages to register for this annual event.

"The 2021-2022 ADWI program has achieved the number of tourist village registrants that exceeded the target, namely 1,831 in 2021 and 3,419 tourist villages in 2022," said Sandi during The Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno at the Sapta Pesona Building, Jakarta, Monday, January 30, 2023.

ADWI is one of the flagship programs of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy. Sandiaga said that even the positive impact could be directly felt by the local community, such as support from various Ministries and Institutions, and even received attention from President Joko Widodo.

"ADWI has become a phenomenon, even President Joko Widodo has asked many times how the tourism village is developing and he wants to visit in person," he said.

One of the goals of holding ADWI, apart from boosting visits by domestic tourists, is also to create tourism awareness from various businesses and the creative economy tourism industry.

"During the pandemic, the number of foreign tourist visits to tourist villages increased by 30 percent. This is also in line with Indonesia's vision as a world-class, globally competitive, and sustainable tourism destination," said Sandiaga.

By the 2020-2024 RPJMN, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is targeting as many as 244 tourist villages and 71,381 digital villages to be certified as independent tourism villages by 2024.

Tourism villages have an important role in many aspects, one of which is spurring the potential for creating economic growth in the local environment, as well as opening up employment opportunities for residents close to tourist sites.

"For this reason, we are happy and open to welcome participation from villages to register for the 2023 Indonesian Tourism Village Award on the jadesta.kemenparekraf.go.id page. All tourist villages that are members of Jadesta will directly participate in ADWI 2023," he concluded.
