23-year-old Shayne Pattynama is the newest addition to Indonesia National Football Team. The news was confirmed by PSSI Executive Committee (Exco) member Hasani Abdulgani. He is currently undergoing naturalization on becoming a full-fledged Indonesian citizen. 

“Shayne Pattynama is a Dutch football player, currently plays for Viking FK (Norwegian League 1). His father was born in Semarang," wrote Hasani on his personal Instagram account, Tuesday, February 22, 2022.

The player with jersey number 20 is looking forward to defending the Red and White team. He has even sent a statement letter and supporting documents to further progress his citizenship process.

"Pattynama has sent a statement letter expressing his willingness to play for the National Team, as well as other supporting documents. Welcome onboard," Abdulgani said.

“It is an honor for me to be able to play for Indonesia National Football Team,” Pattynama said in an interview with Yussa Nugraha on YouTube.

New coach Shin Tae-Yong requested European players to fill the National Team. Other than Pattynama, PSSI is currently naturalizing two other players including Sandy Walsh and Jordi Amat. The Ministry of Youth and Sports is currently processing their requests.

Who is Shayne Pattynama?

Pattynama is a footballer born in Lelystad, Netherlands on August 11, 1998. He inherited his Indonesian ancestry from his father, who was born in Semarang, East Java.

The 180 cm tall defender started his football career by joining SV Lelystad ’67. He may have primarily played as a left defender but he can also play as a central midfielder and left striker.

He studied at Ajax and Utrecht Academy and go on to strengthened Jong Utrecht and SC Telstar in the second tier of the Dutch League. 

He is currently one of the most valuable players of the Norwegian best football club, Viking FK. He was recorded to play in 24 matches with the club in the 2021 season which lead the team to third place in the Norwegian League. He scored two goals and five assists. His contract with the Viking started in 2021 and will end in 2023.

Fans fear his addition to Indonesia National Football Team will risk kicking out other players as Pattynama is said to threaten the role of left defender Pratama Arhan, midfielder Rachmat Irianto, second left defender Edo Febriansyah, or Evan Dimas Darmono.
