BMKG INITIATES DISABLED-FRIENDLY DISASTER INFORMATION TO ENHANCE MITIGATION
Enhancing Disaster Resilience and Inclusivity for People with Disabilities.
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) is taking significant steps to provide disabled-friendly information services, aiming to empower people living with disabilities in disaster mitigation.
During a Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Day seminar, BMKG's Head, Dwikorita Karnawati, announced the agency's commitment to make weather, climate, earthquake, and tsunami information more accessible for the disabled.
By enhancing their understanding, individuals with disabilities can better safeguard themselves during calamities, promoting the concept of disaster mitigation through independence.
BMKG recognizes that individuals' independence is vital for their safety during disasters, as showcased in the 1995 Kobe earthquake, where 30 percent of survivors managed to save themselves.
To strengthen Indonesia's disaster response, the agency invites collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure all citizens, including those with disabilities, have inclusive access to information.
Additionally, Presidential Special Staff for Social Affairs, Angkie Yudistia, emphasized the importance of equal opportunities in education, work, and information accessibility for people living with disabilities.
