BALI BRACES FOR RECORD-BREAKING INFLUX OF TOURISTS DURING CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS
Balancing Act: Bali's bid to manage safety, traffic, and tourism amidst record-breaking holiday rush
As the Christmas holidays approach, the tropical paradise of Bali is gearing up for an unprecedented surge in tourism. Anticipating a massive influx of both international and domestic tourists over the festive break, tourism leaders in Bali are assuring the public that the island is well-prepared for the year-end celebrations.
Bali has already surpassed its tourism target, welcoming over 4.5 million international arrivals in 2023, according to a statement from the Bali Tourism Department. The Head of the Bali Tourism Office, Tjokorda Bagus Pemayun, emphasized the importance of meticulous safety and security preparations for tourism operators on the island.
The Tourism Task Force, responsible for ensuring legal and culturally respectful behavior among tourists, will be active throughout the festive season. Patrols around the island's busiest resorts will continue, aimed at preventing scams and mistreatment of tourists. Border officers will conduct temperature checks on tour arrivals to address health concerns, considering the surge in child pneumonia cases in China and a recent outbreak of Monkey Pox in Jakarta.
The Chairman of the Indonesian Tourism Industry Association (GIPI) Bali, Ida Bagus Agung Partha Adnyana, warned of potential traffic jams, urging both drivers and tourists to prepare for the increased congestion. With tens of thousands more vehicles expected on the roads during the festive season, he suggested that tourists seek accommodations away from the popular and crowded southern Bali areas.
Adnyana stated, "We hope there will be no clusters in southern Bali…we hope that tourist visits can be more evenly distributed."
Tourists planning last-minute trips to Bali are advised to book accommodations in advance. Predictions from the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) in Badung Regency indicate that room occupancy will exceed 70% across the district, reaching 80% during Christmas and potentially reaching full capacity during New Year's celebrations.
I Gusti Agung Ngurah Rai Suryawijaya, Chairman of PHRI Badung, emphasized the importance of booking flight tickets and transportation in advance to avoid disappointment. He assured tourists that security measures would be heightened after the election campaign but affirmed that political activities would not impact their vacation.
Suryawijaya concluded, "We hope to work even harder to provide opportunities for all countries who want to visit Bali. We also have to maintain the conduciveness of our area because tourism is very close to security. Otherwise, there are no tourists. It is mandatory for us to maintain regional security so that tourism can increase." Bali is eagerly awaiting the influx of visitors and aims to ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday experience for all.
