Due to the increasing demand for information and communications technology skills, the gender gaps in these fields have also become more prominent. In Indonesia, many women and girls cannot pursue their education due to various factors such as early marriage and pregnancy.
Through her organization, Simandjuntak aims to provide education for women and girls in Indonesia that will enable them to excel in these fields.
According to UNICEF, the pandemic outbreak has worsened Indonesia's already dire learning crisis. Since Simandjuntak started Markoding, she has trained over 10,000 women and girls in various technology and innovation fields. She has also launched a scholarship program and a series of online webinars to encourage more girls to pursue STEM-related careers.
As the fourth annual Power of Radiance Awards draws closer, Clé de Peau Beauté is pleased to support her efforts and vision. Through her work, Simandjuntak has driven positive change in Indonesia and the world.
Through a partnership with UNICEF Indonesia, Markoding has provided over 5,000 adolescent girls with digital skills and entrepreneurship training.
Simandjuntak aims to provide marginalized women and girls in Indonesia with the necessary skills to become problem-solvers. She said "critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration and empathy" will enable them to contribute to the global effort to make the world a better place.
As the recipient of the Power of Radiance Award in 2022, Simandjuntak will receive a grant that will be used to support her organization's digital innovation challenge, which aims to provide job opportunities for girls in Indonesia.
