Sony Pictures has unveiled the first trailer for "Venom: The Last Dance," the third and purportedly final installment in the Venom film series. Despite the underwhelming performance of recent Marvel adaptations such as "Madame Web," which surprisingly made an appearance on Netflix's top 10 movies chart, the studio hopes to recapture the success of the first two Venom films.

Tom Hardy reprises his role as Eddie Brock, the journalist turned vigilante who bonds with the alien symbiote Venom. The trailer opens with Eddie confidently embracing his superhero persona, even going as far as rescuing puppies from criminals. However, his newfound stability is quickly shattered by a looming, more sinister threat.

New to the cast are Juno Temple and Chiwetel Ejiofor, portraying government agents on the hunt for Eddie and Venom. Temple plays a scientist intent on capturing and studying the symbiotes, while Ejiofor takes on the role of a determined military commander.

The trailer hints at a chaotic plot, with Venom ominously warning Eddie, "Eddie, my home has found us," followed by intense scenes of alien creatures attacking Eddie and Venom as they cling to the side of a plane. Temple’s character appears to have captured some symbiotes, setting up a classic scenario of scientific hubris.

Returning actors include Peggy Lu as Eddie’s neighbor Mrs. Chen, now on vacation in Las Vegas, and Stephen Graham as Patrick Mulligan. Fans of the Marvel comics will recognize Mulligan as the character who transforms into the symbiote known as Toxin, a transformation teased at the end of 2021's "Venom: Let There Be Carnage."

Noticeably absent from the trailer and cast list is Michelle Williams, who played Eddie’s love interest, Anne Weying, in the first two films. However, the unique bond between Eddie and Venom remains a focal point, highlighted by their practice of saying "We are Venom" in unison.

Interestingly, the trailer features Venom in the same outfit he wore during his brief appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) post-credits scenes of "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" and "Spider-Man: No Way Home." "Ted Lasso" star Cristo Fernández reprises his role as the bartender from "No Way Home," and Rhys Ifans makes a brief appearance, though it is unclear if he is reprising his role as the Lizard from "The Amazing Spider-Man."

Directed by Kelly Marcel, who co-wrote the first two Venom movies, "Venom: The Last Dance" is based on a story co-written by Marcel and Hardy. The film is set to hit theaters on October 25, promising a thrilling conclusion to Eddie and Venom's saga.
