Honda Aircraft Company has just introduced a concept jet aircraft with the name HondaJet 2600 Concept. The introduction at the 2021 National Business Aviation Association - Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition (NBAA-BACE) event showcased the next generation of Honda's business jets.

Although it is still a concept, Honda hopes to get feedback to see the increasing demand for private jets.

The HondaJet 2600 concept still uses the characteristics of previous Honda Aircraft products, including Over The Wing Engine Mount (OTWEM), Natural Laminar Flow (NLF) on the wings and nose of the aircraft, as well as the use of carbon composite materials.

This jet aircraft will later become the first light jet aircraft in the world that can fly non-stop transcontinental, including flying across the entire United States. Honda also offers an aircraft design that is relatively quiet with spacious cabin space, suitable for long-distance flights.

This plane can accommodate 11 passengers and is said to have a better level of fuel efficiency. Although there is no claim for numbers, Honda revealed that this new aircraft is 20 percent more efficient than similar aircraft and 40 percent more fuel-efficient than medium-sized jets.

From the specification sheet, the HondaJet 2600 can fly as far as 2,625 nautical miles (about 4,861 kilometers) and has a cruising speed of up to 450 knots (about 833 km per hour). It can fly up to an altitude of 47,000 feet. The OTWEM design reduces the vibrations generated by jet engines that are usually felt in private jets in its class. Honda offers three types of modular cabins and can be customized according to consumer desires.

These comforts include a new, ergonomic seat design and rotating the seat 180 degrees plus footrests and reclining capabilities. The rear of the plane can accommodate a bedroom made of lightweight mattresses. Honda also still offers ample cargo storage, again thanks to the placement of the jet engine on the top of the wing.

Not to forget, this jet is designed to be operated by one pilot. This capability comes thanks to the innovative technologies offered by Honda, such as electrification and autonomous systems, including autothrottle and auto brake. This technology helps the pilot's workload to operate the aircraft more safely using advanced interfaces.

"Over the past five years, we introduced the HondaJet Elite, then the Elite S, to further enhance the original HondaJet design. Now, we are validating market demand as we unveil a new aircraft concept in a different segment from the original HondaJet. With the HondaJet 2600 Concept, which enables efficient transcontinental flight, offers a new level of cabin comfort and capacity, and dramatically reduces CO2 emssions, we are introducing a new generation of business jets." said Honda Aircraft Company President and CEO Michimasa Fujino.

The jet aircraft market is said to continue to grow despite the uncertainty of the pandemic on the world economy. The need for private jets in the future will even continue to increase, especially in European, Middle East, and Asian countries. Buyers of new jet planes also grew close to 30 percent to 40 percent compared to old consumers who already had jets before. Airbus ACH reports Airbus helicopter buyers by 40 percent are the first buyers.

In the next 20 years, some parties assess that the increase in private jets and helicopters sales will reach 10 to 20 times from today. The private aviation industry is currently worth $30 billion, which means that in 20 years, it could reach $200 billion.
