SOE Minister Erick Thohir on Wednesday inaugurated Jakarta’s first downtown duty-free shop for international travelers, as well as the diplomatic community in Indonesia.

The newly opened store is located on the fourth floor of the iconic Sarinah shopping center on Jakarta’s Thamrin street. The 1,886 sqm retail space is a multi-category duty-free shopping destination with a select variety of international luxury brands, including cosmetics, clothing, jewelry, premium food and candies, alongside Indonesia’s finest crafts and homegrown brands.

Erick Thohir was accompanied by high-ranking Indonesian and foreign government officials, industry leaders, and representatives during the inauguration ceremony held on February 1, 2023.

“The official opening of Sarinah Duty Free proves that Indonesian SMEs’ high-quality products and our premium local brands can be showcased alongside popular international brands at Sarinah Duty Free,” said Erick.

According to PT Sarinah CEO Fetty Kwartati, the concept behind the presentation of Indonesian products of the shop “highlights the six themes of Indonesia’s abundant culture; Taste of Spice, Bittersweet Memories, Embracing Authenticity, Tailored to Perfection, Rejuvenate the Soul, and Heartwarming Gift to the One.” 

The opening of Sarinah Duty Free makes it Indonesia’s first duty-free shop in the heart of the capital, offering a convenient shopping experience for the diplomatic communities in Jakarta, as well as travelers and international tourists with confirmed departure tickets.

According to the press release published by the Ministry of State Owned Enterprises, travelers and tourists will be able to collect their purchases at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Terminal 3 International Departure, while diplomats may carry their goods immediately after purchase.

The Sarinah Duty Free shop has also been made available at Bali’s International Departure Terminal 1 at the I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, offering curated Indonesian products to cater to the needs of international visitors. 

The newly opened duty-free shop in Jakarta is the culmination of a strategic partnership between PT Sarinah and the world’s largest duty-free retailer, Dufry International AG, along with Grupo Industrial Omega SA de CV. 

COO of Asia Pacific Dufry Group Pedro Castro expressed gratitude for the partnership.
