JOKOWI HIGHLIGHTS INDONESIA'S WATER INITIATIVES AT WORLD WATER FORUM IN BALI
Jokowi's Water Diplomacy: Indonesia's Initiatives at the World Water Forum Aim for Global Impact and Future Sustainability
At the 10th World Water Forum in Bali, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) introduced four major initiatives that highlight Indonesia's leadership in global water management and commitment to sustainable practices. The forum, themed "Water for Shared Prosperity," aims to address critical water-related issues and foster international cooperation.
One of the key initiatives is the establishment of a Center of Excellence on Water and Climate Resilience. This initiative aims to serve as a hub for innovation and best practices in managing water resources and enhancing climate resilience, promoting global collaboration on solutions to adapt to and mitigate the impacts of climate change.
Another initiative focuses on integrated water management for small islands, addressing the unique challenges these communities face. By mainstreaming these strategies, Indonesia aims to ensure water security and resilience for small islands, promoting sustainable practices that can be replicated globally.
Indonesia is also advocating for the annual observance of World Lake Days to raise global awareness and promote the conservation of lakes, which are crucial for water security, energy production, and flood control. This initiative emphasizes the importance of protecting these vital ecosystems through international efforts.
Additionally, the forum addresses four primary water-related issues: conservation, clean water and sanitation, food and energy security, and disaster mitigation. This comprehensive approach ensures that water management is addressed holistically, integrating various aspects to improve overall water governance and resilience.
For Indonesia, these initiatives reinforce its position as a leader in water diplomacy and sustainable water management. The country aims to influence global policies and attract investments for water infrastructure projects, such as those already committed by South Korea, Sweden, Finland, and the Netherlands for Indonesia's new capital, Nusantara.
Globally, the forum facilitates international collaboration, encouraging countries to adopt innovative water management practices and policies. It provides a platform for exchanging knowledge and experiences, essential for tackling global water challenges.
For future generations, these initiatives aim to secure a sustainable water future by addressing water conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable management practices. They emphasize the importance of protecting water resources to ensure that future generations have access to clean and safe water, which is crucial for health, agriculture, and overall development.
The World Water Forum in Bali is a significant step toward achieving these goals, with high-level discussions and sessions designed to produce actionable outcomes and foster a collaborative approach to global water issues.
