In its commitment to address digital disparities and promote inclusive digital participation, the British Council organized a Training of Trainers: Inclusive Digital Skills Training for the staff of the Communication and Informatics Office (Diskominfo) of the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province. This initiative is part of the Skills for Inclusive Digital Participation (SIDP) Project, funded by the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) of the United Kingdom. The training involved 30 selected Diskominfo staff and took place from January 23 to 25, 2024, at the Diskominfo NTT Auditorium.

This strategic effort aims to support Diskominfo staff in serving and training digital skills in their communities, with a specific focus on digitally marginalized groups such as youth from low-economic backgrounds, women, and persons with disabilities.

Since 2022, the SIDP project has been implemented in Papua, West Papua, Southwest Papua, Maluku, East Nusa Tenggara, South Sulawesi, and Bali. The project has successfully trained 133 community-level trainers, provided basic inclusive digital skills training to 4,119 participants, and intermediate-level digital skills training to 1,450 participants, emphasizing the broader goal of enhancing digital literacy and inclusivity nationwide.

Summer Xia, Director of British Council Indonesia and Southeast Asia Cluster Leader, stated, "We are delighted that SIDP has been recognized by the Indonesian government and used as a technical guide for capacity development training for their staff. This demonstrates that the inclusive digital content we have developed can directly contribute to effective capacity building at the government level and serve as a reference for inclusive digital education in society."

"The SIDP program is a manifestation of the UK's commitment to supporting Indonesia's digital transformation, especially in Eastern Indonesia. By equipping individuals and communities with essential digital skills, we are collectively building a more inclusive and connected society, enabling them to access services, improve job opportunities, enhance education, and empower communities," remarked Dominic Jermey, the British Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor-Leste.

Frederik C. P. Koenunu, Head of the Communication and Informatics Office (Diskominfo) of NTT Province, expressed gratitude, saying, "The Indonesian government, especially the NTT Provincial Government, appreciates the British Council for organizing programs that reach the needs of civil servant human resources. The SIDP program positions civil servants as inspirators, motivators, and evaluators for all government organizers. This training supports preparing civil servants as catalysts for innovations, especially in digital transformation. Civil servants find significant assistance in adapting, especially in utilizing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to provide excellent services. Thus, their services can reach every aspect of needs in improving the quality of life/welfare of the community, especially in terms of gender, persons with disabilities, and effective and efficient poverty eradication. It also optimizes the management of government resources, including wealth, assets, and personnel. Programs like this are expected to be implemented regularly, at least once a year. This would greatly help in accelerating the implementation of national programs, namely One Data Indonesia and the improvement of the Electronic-Based Government System (SPBE) index at the regional level, contributing to the improvement of the national SPBE index."

The British Council remains steadfast in driving positive change through digital education, advancing the goal of "Indonesia Makin Cakap Digital" (Indonesia Becomes More Digital Literate) and ensuring that no one is left behind in the digital era. "SIDP is not just about equipping individuals with digital skills; it's about empowering communities and fostering deep inclusivity," emphasized Summer Xia. She added, "By ensuring that the voices of marginalized communities are not only heard but also given the opportunity to actively participate digitally, we contribute to creating a more empowered and inclusive digital landscape throughout Indonesia."
