HELPING OTHERS IN NEED: A GOJEK DRIVER'S HEROIC STORY
Ferdi's tale is yet another inspiring story of a Gojek driver who goes over and beyond to help others.
The fascinating story of Ferdi, an online delivery driver for the on-demand multi-service platform Gojek who manages to thwart a motorcycle theft in Cikole, Sukabumi, impresses the internet recently.
The 32-year-old story went as follows: one day, he received a customer order to buy food, which he had accepted through GoShop on February 9 at 5 p.m. in the East Station Road, Cikole, Sukabumi.
On his way to take the order, he saw a motorcyclist driving fast and then followed by a middle-aged man crying for help.
Ferdi's heroic act
Ferdi pursued without a second thought until he could corner the suspect in an alley where he asked the people around to help him. His efforts were paid off as he was given appreciation by the police, the victim, and the people who had helped him.
Ferdi's heroic act did not go unnoticed. On social media, people shared his story, and soon enough, he went viral. Gojek, the platform Ferdi worked for, reached out and awarded him with "Driver Jempolan" (top-notch driver) through the company's management representative Rachmadi Adhi Putra on Friday, February 18.
Ferdi spoke to the media he expected to receive nothing as he tried to position himself as the victim, adding that he rushed in to help without giving it a second thought.
"I just went in there because the middle-aged man needed help. My conscience told me to help. I did this (thwart the theft) expecting nothing. I tried to position myself as a victim who lost his motorcycle," he said.
Ferdi reportedly received additional awards from GoPay balance to Tabungan Siaga. Tabungan Siaga is Gojek's initiative that aims to help its drivers reduce operational costs and maintain a sustainable income.

Gojek VP strategic for West Java, Central Java, and Yogyakarta region Anandita Danaatmadja added the company is always proud of its partners with a high social drive and initiative to help others in need, just like what Ferdi did.
Other ojol heroes
Ferdi is just one of many Gojek or online motorcycle taxi drivers (ojol) who has contributed greatly to other people and the environment around them.
Take the story of a group of drivers who went viral on social media as they rushed in to help evacuate victims from a house engulfed in flames in Tasikmalaya, West Java. Their heroic act was shared multiple times on Facebook.
Another story is Deni Pamungkas and his initiative to invite fellow drivers to participate in a nail clearance movement. Deni's act aims to suppress criminal acts using what they called "nail mines" on the highway.

These are just a few examples of the drivers' social impacts they carried, helping and motivating others to do the same — something that we can learn a thing or two from.
