Blending Tradition and Innovation: SPOTLIGHT Indonesia 2024 Highlights Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Fashion
The Indonesian fashion scene reached new heights as SPOTLIGHT Indonesia 2024, a premier event organized by the Indonesian Fashion Chamber (IFC) in collaboration with Gemalindo Kreasi Indonesia, celebrated its third successful year. Held from December 12 to 15, 2024, at the Assembly Hall of Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), the event embraced the theme "Cultural Fusion," blending Indonesia’s rich textile heritage with contemporary fashion innovation.
A Global Showcase for Indonesia’s Cultural Identity
Positioned as a global platform for ready-to-wear fashion rooted in sustainability, SPOTLIGHT Indonesia highlights the use of local textiles, craftsmanship, and cultural narratives. The event featured a dazzling lineup of over 100 designers and brands, showcasing collections spanning formal wear, casual attire, men's fashion, and modest wear. Notable figures like Lenny Agustin, National Chair of IFC, emphasized the event's role in promoting Indonesia’s cultural heritage while fostering innovation.
“SPOTLIGHT Indonesia is more than a fashion event; it’s a celebration of our national identity. By integrating culture with contemporary fashion, we aim to position Indonesia as a global fashion hub,” Agustin said during the event’s opening ceremony.
Fashion Meets Inclusivity and Sustainability
The event featured a robust schedule of fashion shows, exhibitions, workshops, and competitions, fostering collaboration among designers, artisans, and fashion enthusiasts. Key highlights included a parade of Muslim fashion collections under the “Road to IN2MF 2025” initiative supported by Bank Indonesia. Modest fashion remains a strategic focus for IFC, reflecting its economic potential on the global stage.
Sustainability took center stage with the "Best Sustainable Brands" competition, crowning House of Inang for its eco-conscious designs. This initiative underlines SPOTLIGHT Indonesia’s commitment to championing sustainable practices in the fashion industry.
A Milestone in Fashion and Commerce
With 112 brands and approximately 6,700 attendees, SPOTLIGHT Indonesia 2024 generated over IDR 2 billion in transactions during its four-day run. Irvan Mahidin Sukamto, Chief Director of Gemalindo Kreasi Indonesia, expressed gratitude for the event’s success, crediting the collaborative efforts of sponsors, industry players, and visitors.
“The enthusiasm from all participants was overwhelming. SPOTLIGHT Indonesia continues to grow as a vital space for showcasing and expanding the Indonesian fashion industry,” Sukamto remarked.
Grand Finale and a Vision for the Future
The event concluded with a grand fashion parade featuring innovative collections by RACESPOT, ERIGO, MYMD by Deden Siswanto, and others, underscoring the vibrancy of Indonesia’s contemporary fashion scene. Closing remarks by the Minister of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, Maman Abdurrahman, and the Director General of National Export Development, Mardyana Listyowati, highlighted the significance of SPOTLIGHT Indonesia in advancing the nation’s creative economy.
As IFC celebrates its ninth anniversary, its aspirations to establish Indonesia as a global fashion hub remain unwavering. “With each passing year, we aim to strengthen our contributions to the fashion ecosystem and bring Indonesia’s cultural and creative talents to the world stage,” Agustin concluded.
