August holds a significant place in the history of many nations around the world as it marks their independence from colonization. Among them is Indonesia, celebrating its Independence Day on August 17 with various national traditions such as flag ceremonies, parades, and traditional games. However, Indonesia is not the only country commemorating freedom in this month. Here is a look at several other nations also celebrating their independence in August.

Bolivia (August 6)
On August 6, Bolivia celebrates its Independence Day, known as Día de la Patria, commemorating its liberation from Spanish colonial rule in 1825. The day is marked by public festivities, street parades, music performances, and fireworks. Bolivians reflect on their heritage and honor the journey towards self-governance.

Jamaica (August 6)
Jamaica declared its independence from Britain on August 6, 1962. Each year, the day serves as a time for Jamaicans to remember and celebrate the people and events that contributed to the country's freedom. Festivities include cultural events, national ceremonies, and moments of reflection on the nation's history.

Ivory Coast (August 7)
Ivory Coast, officially known as the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, celebrates its Independence Day on August 7. Formerly under French colonial rule, the country achieved independence in 1960. The occasion is marked by cultural events and parades showcasing national pride and heritage.

Ecuador (August 10)
Ecuador’s Independence Day falls on August 10, commemorating its liberation from Spanish rule in 1809. Known as Día del Primer Grito de Independencia de Quito, this public holiday is celebrated with traditional parades and cultural activities, where Ecuadorians honor their history and freedom.

Pakistan (August 14)
Pakistan celebrates its Independence Day on August 14, marking the creation of the nation in 1947 after gaining independence from British colonialism. The day is a public holiday in Pakistan, where citizens express their patriotism and reflect on the nation's journey to independence.

India (August 15)
India celebrates its Independence Day on August 15, marking the end of over 200 years of British rule in 1947. It was a historic moment for the nation, and one of the key figures in the struggle for independence was Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, to whom the Statue of Unity was dedicated. Every year, the day is filled with parades, flag-hoisting ceremonies, and cultural performances across the country.

South Korea (August 15)
South Korea also celebrates its National Liberation Day, known as Gwangbokjeol, on August 15, commemorating the end of Japanese rule in 1945. This day is regarded as a national holiday in South Korea, and people across the country celebrate the restoration of sovereignty with pride.

Republic of the Congo (August 15)
The Republic of the Congo celebrates its independence from French colonial rule on August 15. Not to be confused with its neighbor, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which celebrates independence on June 30, the Republic of the Congo gained freedom in 1960. Celebrations often include parades and cultural displays.

Indonesia (August 17)
Indonesia celebrates its Independence Day on August 17, commemorating its liberation from Dutch colonial rule in 1945. In 2024, the country will mark the 79th anniversary of its independence. This year, the flag ceremony will be held at two significant locations: Nusantara Capital (IKN), Indonesia's soon-to-be capital city, and the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta. President Joko Widodo is expected to lead the ceremony at IKN, while the traditional flag-lowering ceremony will take place simultaneously at both venues.

August is a month that resonates deeply with many nations as a time to celebrate their hard-won freedom from colonial rule.
