Karen's Diner, an Australian chain of theme restaurants, confirms it will open a branch in Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta, on Dec. 15, 2022. 

Karen’s, which offers an interactive diner, where customers will be greeted and waited upon by rude waiters and forced to play a variety of games, confirmed the news at its official Instagram account @karensdinerofficial, saying that it is now official that the famous Australian restaurant to open a branch in the archipelago nation.

A number of local media in Indonesia reported that Karen’s Diner is likely to open a branch at South Jakarta, in cooperation with a Jakarta-based restaurant called Bengkel Burger. 

The restaurant's name comes from the internet slang term Karen, used to describe an older white woman who is stereotypically rude.

Some netters commented on the plan. 

“Indonesian please chill, no baper,” said haveyoumetme28. Baper is an Indonesian slank used to describe an easily irritated person.

“Are you sure Karen’s Diner would like to open a branch in a country whose citizens are easily irritated? ?,” said @haveyoumetme28.

Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, which has around 11.25 million population as of June 2022, serves as the financial hub of the country. 

Some international brands, including those in the food & beverage sector, have penetrated the markets and are trying to serve their own unique and niche markets.
