After being presented with less than optimal results in the Sudirman Cup, the Indonesian badminton team again had to face the tightness of the 2020 Thomas and Uber Cup tournaments. The Indonesian team started training at Ceres Arena, Aarhus, Denmark, to welcome the inaugural match this weekend.

The preparations that the Indonesian athletes have made were carried out long ago. This is due to the adjacent Sudirman and Thomas Uber cup times. Exercises are also carried out in earnest to familiarize yourself with the wind direction, lighting, and the type of shuttlecock used.

Twenty-four players consisted of 12 male and 12 female players trained under their respective coaches for the training. The competition, which starts from October 9 to October 17, 2021, is very much prepared by the Indonesian team, targeting achievements. The Thomas Cup and Uber Cup teams practiced alternately as there were only three available pitches in the 5,000-capacity arena.

Young Player

This time, the Thomas and Uber Indonesia teams included many young players. The players had Putri Kusuma Wardani, Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo, Ribka Sugiarto, Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti, to the men's doubles players Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin.

The selection of these young players is based on performance in the last tournament and during training.

The basis for choosing the core of the performance in the last tournaments we also evaluate from their training. Individually they are the most prepared and qualified. I make sure they are ready to fight and contribute points for the team," said Rionny Mainaky, Head of Development and Achievement Division (Head of Binpres) PBSI.

These young players certainly feel the tension and experience different pressures. This is natural because it is the first time they appear in this prestigious championship in the badminton world.

For this reason, these young players have continued to train together with seniors for the past few weeks. This is done to feel confident when playing in the team event and strengthen the competitive mentality needed in every match.

Chairman of PBSI, Agung Firman Sampurna, said that PBSI had run all programs to welcome various international tournaments that are taking place close together, including the Thomas and Uber trophies.

"We have gone step by step ahead of several important tournaments. Starting from the recovery of colleagues after the Olympics, then undergoing intensive training to holding simulations. We have completed the administrative fulfillment stages. We hope and want to make sure everything goes smoothly, we don't want what happened at the 2021 All England to happen again," said Sampurna.
