The Mexican Navy’s renowned tall training ship, ARM Cuauhtémoc BE-01, concluded its historic first visit to Jakarta, leaving a lasting impression on the city. Docked at Tanjung Priok port from September 1 to 4, 2024, the ship, known as the "Ambassador of the Seas," was on a mission to promote peace and goodwill among nations as part of its annual training tour.

The visit coincided with two important milestones: Mexico’s 214th Anniversary of Independence and the 71st anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Indonesia. Throughout its stay, the Cuauhtémoc served as a symbol of the strong and growing partnership between the two nations, especially as both countries continue discussions on a Letter of Intent (LoI) for defense cooperation.

Over the course of the visit, the crew of the Cuauhtémoc engaged in a series of cultural and diplomatic activities. A highlight was a sports exchange with Indonesian Navy cadets, fostering camaraderie and mutual understanding. The crew also toured some of Jakarta’s key historical landmarks, including Monas and Museum Bahari, providing the sailors with an immersive experience of Indonesian culture. A symposium held aboard the ship enabled knowledge sharing between Mexican and Indonesian naval officials, further strengthening the ties between their respective armed forces.

The Cuauhtémoc was open to the public for three days, attracting a steady stream of visitors who marveled at the vessel’s grandeur and rich history. Many locals, as well as members of Jakarta’s diplomatic and naval communities, came to witness firsthand the impressive sailing ship that has long been a global symbol of peace.

As the ship set sail for its next destination, the Embassy of Mexico in Indonesia expressed gratitude for the warm reception and hospitality extended by the people of Jakarta. The event marked an important chapter in Mexico and Indonesia’s diplomatic relationship, reaffirming their commitment to peace, cooperation, and shared values on the global stage.
