INDONESIA ASIAN GAMES 2026: 5 GOLDS BEAT THE TARGET
Indonesia Asian Games 2026 ended 16th with 5 golds, 11 silvers and 23 bronzes. Here is how the team beat its 4-gold target in Aichi-Nagoya.
At a glance
- Final rank: 16th
- Total medals: 39 (5 gold, 11 silver, 23 bronze)
- Team size: 430 athletes across 35 sports
- Gold target: 4, beaten by 1
Sixteenth place sounds like a modest result. But the target Indonesia set before the Games was only four gold medals. The team came home with five.
Indonesia finished 16th at the Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026, which closed on Sunday, 4 October 2026, in Japan. The team of 430 athletes competed in 35 sports and won 39 medals: 5 gold, 11 silver and 23 bronze.
What did Indonesia Win at the Asian Games 2026?
At the closing ceremony, performers in green-and-gold costumes crossed a white stage. Each carried a heart-shaped sign with a country name in Japanese script. The Red-and-White flag moved through the middle of the parade.
Behind that scene was a solid week of results. Indonesia ended with 39 medals, which works out to about one medal for every 11 athletes it sent. Most of them were bronze (23), then silver (11), then gold (5).

Who won Indonesia's five gold medals?
The five golds came from four sports: badminton, weightlifting, sport climbing and archery. Badminton gave Indonesia two of them, one from the men's team and one from the men's doubles.
The headline moment came from weightlifter Rahmat Erwin Abdullah. He won gold in the 75 kg class and broke the world record with a total of 366 kilograms. His clean and jerk alone was 206 kilograms.
"Thank you for fighting to the very end for Merah Putih."
Narasi, closing-day Instagram post The other two golds came from sport
climbing and archery. Both helped Indonesia pass its own goal at the Games in Aichi-Nagoya.
Why did Taiwan rank higher with the same number of golds?
Here is the fact worth sharing. Taiwan finished 15th with 5 golds, the same as Indonesia. Indonesia still ranked one place lower.
The medal table sorts by gold first, then silver, then bronze. Taiwan won 17 silvers to Indonesia's 11, so it moved ahead. Indonesia's 39 medals look healthy, but Taiwan's 55 gave it the edge.
The Philippines finished 17th, just behind Indonesia, with 4 golds, 9 silvers and 16 bronzes.
How does Indonesia compare with China and Japan?
The gap at the top is huge. China won the overall title with 169 golds, 89 silvers and 83 bronzes, for 341 medals. That is nearly nine times Indonesia's total.
Host nation Japan finished second with 83 golds. South Korea came third with 39 golds, which is the same number as Indonesia's total medals.
So Indonesia is not yet competing with the top three. The more useful comparison is with its own plan. A team that expected four golds and won five did better than it promised.
