Most art fairs ask you to look. Art Jakarta 2026 asks you to fold origami, print your own artwork, and walk through an installation made from discarded cables. It opens tomorrow, 2 October.

What Is Art Jakarta 2026?

Art Jakarta 2026 is Indonesia's premier art fair, focused on contemporary art from Southeast Asia. It takes place from 2 to 4 October 2026 at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta. The fair hosts 75 galleries, more than half of them Indonesian, plus 33 international galleries. Tickets went on sale on 17 September at artjakarta.com.

Here is the surprising part: there are now three Art Jakartas every year. Art Jakarta Papers and Art Jakarta Gardens already happened. This October edition is the big international one, and 19 of its galleries are first-timers.

What Can You See at Art Jakarta 2026?

The fair is split into sections, each with its own personality. SPOT breaks the usual booth format, so galleries can show art at bigger or stranger scales. Artists include Nguyễn Phương Linh from Vietnam, Henryette Louise, Albertho Wanma, Budi Santoso, and Angki Purbandono.

SCENE is for artist collectives, and it has grown to 39 participants from cities across Indonesia. AJX brings in institutions from abroad. Korea Focus returns for a second year with 14 South Korean galleries, backed by the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Natta-Cita Art Space from ISI Bali adds Balinese artist-academics.

What Is New This Year?

The new section is SCOPE, supported by MTN Seni Budaya under Indonesia's Ministry of Culture. It presents "MTN Market," a showcase of six small art fairs picked through an open call. They come from Malang, Pekanbaru, Banyumas, Gorontalo, Bekasi, and Yogyakarta.

In other words, art fairs from smaller cities now get a booth at the big fair in Jakarta.

Which Brands Are Bringing Art to the Fair?

Many partners have teamed up with artists. In the Julius Baer VIP lounge, Handiwirman Saputra shows his Penampang Taut Berpilin series. Guests can also make their own art print in his activation, Kuasa Alam (The Might of Nature).

Bibit and Stockbit present Lost at Sea by Yogyakarta-based Endry Pragusta. It is a raft installation, and visitors can write their hopes and fold them into origami. Treasury works with prize winner Etza Meisyara on Gravity of the Unheld, a multisensory installation about gold. Visitors can take home pieces of it.

Agnes Hansella's Hutan Kabel turns cable waste into art, for iForte and Protelindo Group. Darbotz and Djournal collaborate on a booth, merchandise, and three coffee

creations. Look for TACO's The Curiosity Engine, built around a sunrise colour palette. AIA presents The Living Legacy with batik maestro Iwan Tirta.

"A space where visual arts stakeholders in the region can meet."
Enin Supriyanto, Artistic Director, Art Jakarta

Supriyanto says this is the fair's main job: to bring collectors, galleries, and artists together so the region's art market keeps growing.
