Indonesia x Singapore Orchid Extravaganza is an immersive art exhibition at the Flower Dome inside Gardens by the Bay, Singapore, presented by Indonesia's Ministry of Creative Economy / Creative Economy Agency (Kementerian Ekonomi Kreatif/Badan Ekonomi Kreatif, or Kemenekraf/Bekraf RI) as part of MASA Singapore 2026. It opened on July 4, 2026, and runs until August 10, 2026, featuring more than 30 art installations that translate Indonesia's regional geography, flora, fauna, and traditional architecture into walk-through art.
Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar spoke at the opening on Saturday, July 4, 2026. She framed the exhibition as a way to introduce Indonesia's identity through creativity rather than tourism marketing pointing out that Indonesia's traditions and geographic intellectual property are as much a story as its natural landscapes.
What Makes This Exhibition Different ?
Most cultural showcases stop at booths and merchandise tables. This one is architectural. The 30-plus installations pull from eight distinct regions Sumatra, Jakarta, Central Java, Lampung, Bali, East Nusa Tenggara, Papua, and Kalimantan each blending traditional building forms, native plants, and Nusantara wildlife into a single walkable space inside the Flower Dome.
The result is less "trade show" and more sensory walk: the Flower Dome's cool, orchid-scented air now carries gamelan tones through an electronic instrument built by university engineers, next to a folklore costume display and a live painting installation.
Who Contributed to the Exhibition?
The project was built through collaboration rather than a single production house. Contributors include Make a Scene, Pagelaran Sabang Merauke, Mortier x Jerhemy Owen, painter Erika Richardo, composer Addie MS with his "Sound of Indonesia" piece, and Universitas Dian Nuswantoro's Electronic Gamelan (E-Gamelan) a digital reinterpretation of the traditional instrument.
Pagelaran Sabang Merauke's contribution includes life-sized folklore costume displays Yuyu Kangkang, Malin Kundang, and Ibu Malin Kundang — set among the orchids. It's a preview of the group's own arena production, "Hikayat Srikandi Nusantara," staged separately at Indonesia Arena, Senayan, on August 21–23, 2026.
Why Does This Matter for Indonesia's Creative Economy?
Kemenekraf frames the exhibition as more than cultural diplomacy it's positioning Indonesian creative talent, intellectual property, and design work for international buyers and audiences. MASA Singapore 2026 runs under the theme "A Sight into the Golden Indonesia Era," and Kemenekraf has stated it plans to keep expanding this kind of international promotional space for Indonesian creators.
The opening was attended by Singapore's Minister of State for National Development and Trade and Industry, Alvin Tan, and Gardens by the Bay CEO Felix Loh a signal that the exhibition was treated as a bilateral cultural moment, not just an Indonesian marketing push.
