Indonesia’s tourism and hospitality industry is set to gain a new national platform with the launch of Indonesia Tourism Xchange 2026 (ITX 2026), a forum designed to connect hotel owners, investors, operators, and industry leaders to discuss the future of tourism investment and hospitality development across the archipelago. As global travel demand continues to recover and competition among destinations intensifies, the event is expected to play a key role in shaping strategies for one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic tourism markets.

The inaugural Indonesia Tourism Xchange 2026 will take place on 12 May 2026 at The Langham, Jakarta. The forum aims to reflect the unique realities of Indonesia’s tourism landscape, including its geographic scale, rich cultural heritage, and diverse portfolio of destinations. At the same time, the event will address the changing expectations of modern travelers, hospitality brands, and international investors who are increasingly looking toward Indonesia as a promising tourism and hospitality market.

Industry leaders attending the forum will explore a wide range of topics that define the evolving hospitality sector. Discussions will cover luxury hospitality, hotel performance, tourism investment opportunities, hospitality technology, sustainability strategies, and new development models that are emerging in Indonesia’s resort and urban destinations. By bringing together stakeholders from across the tourism ecosystem, the forum seeks to create meaningful conversations about long-term industry growth.

The event will begin with an overview of Indonesia’s tourism outlook and investment climate for 2026. This session will provide important economic context for investors and operators seeking to better understand the opportunities and risks within Indonesia’s travel market. Tourism remains a significant contributor to the country’s economy, and the government continues to position the sector as a major driver of economic growth, job creation, and regional development.

A central theme of the forum will focus on the transformation of luxury hospitality in Indonesia. As travel preferences evolve, the concept of luxury has shifted from traditional displays of scale and opulence toward experiences that emphasize authenticity and cultural connection. Today’s luxury travelers are increasingly seeking destinations that offer meaningful engagement with local culture rather than standardized global hotel experiences.

According to Sherona Shng, Regional Vice President Operations Asia at Langham Hospitality Group, travelers visiting Indonesia are looking for experiences that reflect the country’s cultural richness and identity. She explains that luxury travelers are no longer interested in hotel concepts that could exist anywhere in the world. Instead, they are searching for destinations that offer a strong sense of place and emotional connection.

Shng believes that hospitality brands operating in Indonesia must develop a deeper understanding of the country’s cultural complexity in order to succeed. Hotels that combine personalized service with culturally informed experiences are more likely to resonate with modern travelers who value authenticity as much as comfort and exclusivity.

Another important topic at ITX 2026 will examine hotel performance and market demand across Indonesia’s tourism destinations. Industry experts will analyze how hotels are performing in both urban markets and resort areas, particularly within the upper-upscale and luxury segments. These insights are increasingly important as investors seek stronger financial returns while navigating a competitive and rapidly evolving hospitality landscape.

During this session, Matt Gebbie, Director – Pacific Asia at Horwath HTL, will discuss Indonesia’s tourism prospects and highlight the importance of strategic growth within the sector. He notes that Indonesia’s opportunity lies not only in expanding tourism numbers but in ensuring that development is sustainable and well positioned for long-term success.

Gebbie emphasizes that luxury hotels in particular face rising expectations in terms of operational performance, capital returns, and brand differentiation. Investors and developers must carefully evaluate which destinations and hospitality concepts are most likely to perform strongly in the coming years.

Beyond the hotel sector, the forum will also explore the rise of branded residences as a growing component of Indonesia’s luxury real estate and hospitality landscape. These developments combine residential ownership with the services and branding of international hospitality companies, creating a hybrid model that appeals to lifestyle-driven investors.

A dedicated session on branded residences will be moderated by Bill Barnett of C9 Hotelworks. Barnett notes that branded residences are increasingly becoming a primary driver of demand in the luxury real estate market. Their appeal lies in the combination of trusted global brands, attractive tourism destinations, and the growing demand for lifestyle-oriented property investments.

However, Barnett also highlights that Indonesia’s diverse and fragmented tourism markets present unique challenges for developers. Aligning brand identity, destination appeal, and local cultural context is essential for these projects to succeed.

In addition to investment and development trends, the ITX 2026 program will address other key issues shaping the future of hospitality. Topics such as hospitality technology, sustainability initiatives, leadership strategies, and ownership transitions will be discussed throughout the event. Industry leaders will also explore the importance of culturally grounded design, which is increasingly recognized as a powerful way to create authentic guest experiences while strengthening destination identity.

Indonesia Tourism Xchange 2026 is organized by Horwath HTL, C9 Hotelworks, STR, QUO Global, Greenview, and Delivering Asia in partnership with Langham Hospitality Group. The event is also supported by Jakarta Hotels Association, PHRI Indonesia, and Bali Hotels Association.

As Indonesia’s tourism sector continues to mature and evolve, Indonesia Tourism Xchange 2026 aims to establish itself as a key annual industry forum. By bringing together leading voices in tourism investment, hospitality development, and travel strategy, the event provides valuable insight into the opportunities shaping one of Asia’s most compelling travel markets.
