The upcoming movie ‘Where The Crawdads Sing’ released the first trailer on March 22, 2022. While the movie itself is due to arrive in theaters on July 22 this year, the short clip has given the viewers a glimpse of the visual adaptation of the popular novel of the same name authored by Delia Owen.

The trailer roughly summarized the story. People get to see Daisy Edgar-Jones taking on the lead role as Kya, a young girl surviving life alone in an isolated marshland in North Carolina since her family abandoned her as a child.

The tragedy approaches Kya’s isolated life after her acquaintance named Chase Andrews -played by Harris Dickinson- found dead in the marsh area, which then led Kya to get even more shunned by the town folks and suspected by the police of murder.

The trailer posed the mixed vibes of intensity and gloominess as the thriller-romantic novel itself. It shows brief scenes of Kya’s childhood with her mother, and other bitter moments when she meets and then is left again by boyfriend Tate Walker -played by Taylor John Smith.

The scenes later jump to the part when Kya started to get involved romantically with Chase, for whom she eventually was hunted, captured, and put on trial.

As the trailer reaches its climax, from the background, the viewers also get a glimpse of a new song from Taylor Swift entitled ‘Carolina’, which the singer wrote and recorded specially for the movie.

The casts, and what the novel fans could anticipate from the movie

‘Where The Crawdads Sing’ will have rising stars and fresh faces alike for its cast. As mentioned before, the 23-year-old Daisy Edgar-Jones (‘Normal People’, ‘Fresh’) will be playing the iconic character from the novel, and the fans are excited about Daisy’s acting in the upcoming film.

“Daisy Edgar-Jones in Where The Crawdads Sing omg she is about to be so so so excellent," one fan wrote on Twitter.

Aside from the breakout star Daisy Edgar-Jones, the movie will also be the new playground for Harris Dickinson (‘Beach Rat’, ‘The Souvenir: Part II) and Taylor John Smith (Sharp Object), as the two young actors have successfully stolen audiences' hearts by television series and indie movies they have starred in.

Whereas the rest of the cast consists of Garret Dillahunt and Ahna O’Reilly (Kya’s parents), Sterling Macer Jr. and Michael Hyatt (Jumpin and Mabel), and Jojo Regina and Luke David Blumm (A younger version of Kya and Tate).

Behind the camera, it’s not just Taylor Swift the novel fan who contributes to the movie adaptation. Prominent actress Reese Witherspoon is among the film producers.

Witherspoon, who had made Owen's novel for her book club back in September 2018, gives the adaptation project a go along with Olivia Newman taking on the role as the director, and Lucy Alibar writing the screenplay.

"I read this novel probably in one day, maybe two days. I just couldn’t put it down," Witherspoon told Vanity Fair.

“The book is a love letter to growing up in the South, which for me really resonated because I grew up in New Orleans and Nashville,” she added.
