Most jazz festivals in Indonesia happen in cities. This one happens 900 meters above sea level, next to an active volcano, in a town better known for flowers than saxophones.

That town is Tomohon, North Sulawesi  and on 23–24 October 2026, it's hosting its first-ever Tomohon Jazz Festival (TJF), organized by PT Rajawali Indonesia Communication, the same promoter behind Prambanan Jazz Festival.

What is Tomohon Jazz Festival?

TJF is a new large-scale music festival built around three things Tomohon already does well: mountain scenery, cool-climate tourism, and a track record of pulling off major public events. The city already runs the Tomohon International Flower Festival (TIFF) every August, so the local government has experience turning a small highland town into an event destination.

For this jazz edition, the stage sits in the outdoor grounds of Metland Marron Hotel, a four-star property that's part of Metland's broader push into East Indonesia hospitality. The venue looks out toward Mount Lokon, one of Tomohon's two active volcanoes, with Lake Tondano visible in the wider landscape.

The festival runs for two days, 23–24 October 2026, at Metland Marron Hotel's outdoor grounds in Taman Kelong, Tomohon. That's roughly a two-hour drive from Manado, the nearest major airport in North Sulawesi. The full lineup hasn't dropped yet. Organizers have confirmed a mix of national jazz musicians, mainstream Indonesian artists, and local talent, with names to be announced in stages through the official Instagram account, @tomohonjazz. What's already locked is the promoter pedigree: Rajawali Indonesia Communication built Prambanan Jazz Festival into one of Java's most consistent jazz draws, which is the main reason industry watchers are paying attention to a first-year event in a city most people associate with orchids, not music festivals.

Early bird tickets went on sale 25 July 2026 through Fasticket. Official pricing tiers haven't been published in detail yet  check the Fasticket listing or @tomohonjazz for updates as they roll out. Beyond the concert, organizers have confirmed local UMKM (small business) vendors and community arts groups will have a presence on-site, so expect food and craft stalls alongside the music.

Why does a volcano-adjacent jazz festival matter?
Tomohon's mayor, Caroll J.A. Senduk, has been positioning the city as a MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, Exhibitions) and events destination  not just a flower-festival stopover. Landing a festival from the Prambanan Jazz team is a signal that promoters see commercial potential in North Sulawesi beyond Manado. If TJF lands its 10,000-attendee target in year one, it could become the region's second flagship annual event after TIFF.
