Marriott's Ambitious Expansion Plans Transform Türkiye's Hospitality Landscape
Marriott International, Inc. (NASDAQ: MAR) has taken a bold step to solidify its presence in Türkiye, a country known for its rich history, stunning landscapes, and vibrant culture. The global hospitality giant recently announced a series of deals that are set to reshape the Turkish hospitality landscape, adding over 2,000 rooms across 13 projects. This move reaffirms Marriott's unwavering commitment to this breathtaking nation, where it already boasts a portfolio of 48 properties and nearly 8,000 rooms across 21 distinctive brands.
Expanding Across Türkiye's Diverse Markets
Jerome Briet, Marriott International's Chief Development Officer for Europe, Middle East & Africa, emphasized the allure of Türkiye as a global tourist destination. He stated, "As one of the most sought-after tourist destinations in the world, Türkiye continues to provide the company with opportunities to further diversify its portfolio across primary, secondary, and tertiary markets in the country."
This diverse expansion strategy encompasses several exciting projects across Türkiye. One of the highlights is the introduction of Fairfield Inn by Marriott in the country with the signing of the 192-room Fairfield by Marriott Istanbul Yenibosna. This property, set to open in 2025, will offer an effortlessly relaxed and efficient hotel design coupled with a contemporary aesthetic, making it an ideal choice for travelers.
Additionally, Türkiye's growing demand for longer-stay accommodation will be met with the signing of Residence Inn by Marriott Istanbul Piyalepasa and Courtyard by Marriott Istanbul Piyalepasa, both forming part of the 450,000sqm mixed-use Piyalepaşa Istanbul development, scheduled to open in 2026. These properties combined will provide 329 rooms, catering to the evolving needs of travelers.
Upscale Residential Apartments and More
Marriott International has also responded to the surge in demand for upscale residential apartments in Istanbul. Marriott Executive Apartments Vadistanbul, set to open in the sought-after Vadistanbul community in 2024, will feature 202 rooms. Meanwhile, Marriott Executive Apartments Istanbul Tema, part of the upcoming mixed-use Tema Istanbul development in Küçükçekmece, will comprise 208 rooms and is also expected to open in 2024.
Furthermore, Marriott's flagship brand, Marriott Hotels & Resorts, expanded its footprint with the recent conversion and reopening of Istanbul Marriott Hotel Pendik. The Sheraton Hotels & Resorts brand, which currently boasts the largest portfolio in the country, is poised for growth with the signing of Sheraton Hotel & Thermal Spa Usak, scheduled to welcome guests in 2024, marking Marriott's debut in Usak.
Diverse Brand Offerings
The expansion doesn't stop there. Marriott International is introducing more brands to Türkiye's hospitality scene. Delta Hotels by Marriott will offer a seamless travel experience in downtown Karakoy with the signing of the 78-room Delta Hotels by Marriott Istanbul Karakoy, set to open its doors in 2024. Aloft Hotels, Marriott's trendy and vibrant brand, plans to open its second property in Türkiye, Aloft Istanbul Karakoy, adding 100 rooms to the market by 2024. Moxy Hotels, known for its playful and spirited atmosphere, is also making its mark in Türkiye with Moxy Izmir Turan set to open in 2025.
A Touch of Luxury and Independent Charm
For those seeking a touch of luxury and independent charm, Marriott International is expanding its Collection brands in Türkiye. Tribute Portfolio, located in the heart of Taksim Square, plans to open by the end of this year, offering 61 rooms with captivating design and vibrant social scenes. In 2024, an Autograph Collection Hotel in Cappadocia will join the brand’s collection of independent hotels, featuring 153 unique rooms.

From the luxurious St. Regis Hotels & Resorts and The Ritz-Carlton to the trendy W Hotels and the independent charm of Autograph Collection, Marriott continues to redefine hospitality in Türkiye.
