Four singers, four microphones, one neon sign. Here is why this small studio set matters for Indonesian pop.

AT A GLANCE

  • 4 members: Baila Fauri, Christy Gardena, Esther Geraldine, Shazfa Adesya
  • 1st Indonesian girl group on Genius Open Mic
  • May 2, 2025: debut single “shoot” with 88rising
  • 1.5 million+ monthly Spotify listeners (Tatler Asia)

Four singers stand in a row under a red neon sign that says OPEN. Each has her own microphone. Pink and violet light tubes glow behind them. There is no stage, no crowd and no dance break to hide behind.

That is the setup for the no na Genius Open Mic session, and it made history this week. The Indonesian girl group, signed to 88rising, performed their newest song “star” live for Genius, the music and lyrics platform. Genius posted the video on YouTube in early October 2026, and it is free to watch. Oppal Indonesia says no na is the first Indonesian girl group to appear on the series. The four members are Baila Fauri, Christy Gardena, Esther Geraldine and Shazfa Adesya.

What is Genius Open Mic?

Genius Open Mic is a video series where artists sing live in a small, simple set. The point is the voice, not the production. For a group known for choreography, that is a different kind of test. Nobody can judge the footwork, so the harmonies have to carry everything.

Who are the singers in no na?

88rising announced the group on April 29, 2025, and released the debut single “shoot” on May 2. The video was shot around paddy terraces and a waterfall. The name comes from “nona,” the Indonesian word for a young lady.

Here is the fact most people miss. Two of the four sang on TV before no na existed. Baila was 13 when she placed sixth on Indonesian Idol Junior. Esther was the last to join, straight from season 10 of Indonesian Idol.

Their reach is already big for a group this new. Tatler Asia reports more than 1.5 million monthly Spotify listeners and a place on the NME 100 list for 2026.

Why does the no na Genius Open Mic performance matter?

Most “global girl groups” get judged on dance and video. Open Mic judges them on sound. Oppal Indonesia described the “star” performance as tight vocals with harmonies that are easy on the ears.

Each member wore a different outfit, from a lime green top to black-and-white striped trousers. In a frame this plain, the styling does the talking.

It also puts Indonesian pop in front of a new crowd. Genius readers are people who read lyrics closely and argue about them. 88rising has long backed Indonesian solo artists such as Rich Brian, NIKI and Stephanie Poetri. no na is its first girl group, and this is a test without choreography.

“To put Indonesia on the global map through our music.”
no na, as reported by Dazed, July 2026

A studio set with four mics will not tell you if a group can fill a stadium. It does show whether they can hold harmonies while standing still, and Oppal Indonesia’s post suggests they can.

How do you watch no na on Genius Open Mic?

Search for the group’s name and “Open Mic” on Genius’s YouTube channel. Oppal Indonesia also posted a short clip on Instagram. Once you have watched it, play “the one,” their retro, late-night synth single with a psychic hotline video. The contrast shows how much range four voices can have.
