Manchester United will have an advantage when they travel to Wanda Metropolitano for their Champions League last-16 tie against Atletico Madrid.

Both sides finished top of their groups, with United securing a place in the last 16 while Atletico secured second place.

It will be a different kind of game for Atletico, who are coming off a win over Osasuna in La Liga. It is worth noting that they have been struggling this season.

Diego Simeone's men are currently in fifth place in the league, 15 points behind Real Madrid. They have a chance to qualify for next season's Champions League if they place fourth in La Liga.

They were not at their best during the Champions League group stage, losing to AC Milan once and Liverpool twice. However, a late win over FC Porto secured Atletico second place in Group B.

The last time Red Devils and Atletico met was in 1991 in the second round of the Cup Winners' Cup, where the Spanish team won 4-1 on aggregate.

Last season, Atletico was beaten by English team Chelsea in the knockout stage of the Champions League. Despite this, Simeone's men have still reached the quarterfinals in five of their last eight campaigns.

Manchester United will enter the game on the back of a win, which came through a brace from Anthony Elanga and Fred. They are currently fourth in the Premier League.
