Today, USAID, in partnership with Indonesia’s Ministry of Health, announced the launch of "USAID BEBAS TB," a groundbreaking program aimed at strengthening Indonesia's fight against tuberculosis and advancing the nation's progress towards eliminating TB by 2030.

The five-year, $70 million flagship activity, Together Towards Elimination and Freedom From TB (USAID BEBAS TB), is designed to enhance the quality of tuberculosis case detection, diagnosis, care, and prevention.

"We are delighted to collaborate with Indonesia's Ministry of Health to improve health outcomes for the people of Indonesia, particularly in the battle against tuberculosis," said Michael Schiffer, Assistant Administrator of USAID’s Bureau for Asia. "This new initiative underscores USAID's steadfast commitment to supporting our partnership in the ongoing fight against this devastating disease."

Through the USAID BEBAS TB program, USAID will provide technical assistance to the National TB Program, introducing and piloting new approaches and treatment regimens while implementing international best practices in Indonesia.

Health Minister Budi G. Sadikin expressed his gratitude for the United States' vital contribution to Indonesia's healthcare transformation. He acknowledged the latest USAID support for tuberculosis control, which will significantly contribute to Indonesia's efforts to achieve the TB elimination target by 2030.

The USAID BEBAS TB initiative will concentrate its efforts in four densely populated provinces with high TB burdens: North Sumatra, West Java, Central Java, and East Java. The program aims to enhance TB care in both public and private hospitals by providing extensive training to healthcare workers and community health workers.
