NUSANTARA CAPITAL CITY EMPLOYS AI FOR ENHANCED TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT AND EMISSIONS CONTROL
Harnessing AI for Sustainable Urban Mobility and Emissions Control
The government of the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) has announced the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. This move is aimed at bolstering Nusantara's reputation as a smart and sustainable capital city.
The IKN Authority revealed that the AI system will play a pivotal role in optimizing traffic flow and enhancing law enforcement efforts. Additionally, it will facilitate the analysis of motor vehicle emissions, a crucial step in promoting environmental sustainability within the city.
This initiative comes as a follow-up to the memorandum of understanding (MoU) inked between the IKN Authority and Sergek Projects in September 2023. The recent proof of concept (PoC) conducted on Wednesday showcased the potential of this collaboration.
Mohammed Ali Berawi, Deputy for Green and Digital Transformation at the IKN Authority, emphasized the multifaceted benefits of the PoC. "The PoC not only enhances traffic management and law enforcement but also enables the analysis of motor vehicle emissions in specific areas of Balikpapan," stated Berawi.
Sergek Projects, the partner in this endeavor, outlined its plans to integrate the Sergek analysis system into Balikpapan City's existing traffic infrastructure. The scope of the PoC encompasses advanced traffic management, law enforcement, and emissions monitoring.
Since its launch, the AI-powered platform has provided valuable insights into Balikpapan's traffic patterns. Ali highlighted the platform's ability to analyze diverse parameters such as travel time, average speed, and traffic density, empowering operators to make informed decisions.
Ali expressed optimism regarding the efficacy of the AI system in optimizing traffic control and planning. He underscored its role in helping IKN achieve its low carbon emission targets and promoting the utilization of public transportation.
During the PoC session, the authority demonstrated the functionality of cameras installed at various traffic points in Balikpapan City. Tonny Agus Setiono, Director of Digital Ecosystem Development at the IKN Authority, emphasized the system's potential for remote monitoring from the IKN Authority Command Center.
Looking ahead, Setiono highlighted the technology's prospective utilization across various facets of IKN, signaling a paradigm shift in urban management and sustainability efforts.
The integration of AI into Nusantara Capital City's traffic management framework represents a significant step towards creating a smarter and more eco-friendly urban landscape. As the initiative progresses, it is expected to set a precedent for sustainable urban development initiatives worldwide.
