KING CHARLES III'S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION WITH BRITISH EMBASSY IN JAKARTA

Known as the King's Birthday Party (KBP), this event was part of the coronation festivities for King Charles III and was celebrated by British ambassadors from various countries, including Indonesia.

The British Embassy in Jakarta and the British Mission to ASEAN came together to celebrate the birthday of King Charles III on Wednesday, June 7, 2023. This grand event, known as the King's Birthday Party (KBP), was part of the coronation festivities for King Charles III and was celebrated by British ambassadors from various countries, including Indonesia. The celebration was a joyous occasion filled with performances by The Royal Yeomanry Military Band, a ceremonial cake cutting, and attended by 1,300 guests, including ministers, ambassadors, politicians, and other notable figures.


Among the esteemed guests were Airlangga Hartarto, the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Budi Karya Sumadi, the Minister of Transportation, Teten Masduki, the Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises, Jusuf Kalla, the 12th Vice President of Indonesia, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), and ASEAN Secretary-General Robert Matheus Michael Tene.


During the event, Owen Jenkins, the British Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor Leste, delivered a speech emphasizing the significance of King Charles III's coronation and the cooperation between Indonesia and Britain. He highlighted the importance of youth, diversity, community, and sustainability, which are cherished themes for King Charles. Jenkins also praised the collaborative efforts in sending 2,000 Indonesian students to the UK through the Chevening scholarship program and expressed gratitude for the contributions made by the British Council.


Jenkins further shared examples of British initiatives, including the Digital Access program, English Skills for Prosperity, renewable energy partnerships, and MENTARI. The UK takes pride in supporting the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), launched during the G20, which focuses on sustainability and climate-related matters. Additionally, the UK aims to strengthen trade and investment cooperation with Indonesia and actively engage with the ASEAN region.


In his address, Airlangga Hartarto highlighted the positive and mutually respectful relationship that has existed between Indonesia and the UK for nearly 74 years. He expressed his confidence that the partnership between the two countries will reach new heights and bring mutual benefits. Airlangga extended his heartfelt congratulations to King Charles III, wishing for peace, prosperity, and a fruitful partnership between Indonesia and the UK.
