GRAFIS NUSANTARA X KAMENGSKI LAUNCHES A COLLECTION OF VINTAGE LABELS AND STICKERS OF INDONESIA

Grafis Nusantara collaborates with Kamengski to release a book containing collections of vintage labels and stickers throughout Indonesia.

Grafis Nusantara, an archiving platform that collects designs of vintage labels and stickers from all regions of Indonesia, released their first design book called “Grafis Nusantara- Koleksi Label dan Stiker.” 

Grafis Nusantara is an archiving media for old Indonesian labels and stickers made in the 70-90s era. There are various kinds of labels and stickers, Grafis Nusantara simply presents the richness of graphics in various regions and corners of the archipelago which is expected to provide knowledge as well as reference material. 

On their first release, Grafis Nusantara teams up with Kamengski as publisher and collaborator that helps in developing the book. Simultaneously, they will also release merchandise such as T-shirts to stickers.

This book will thoroughly explore the selection of vintage labels and stickers from the 70s to 90s. From cigarette labels, batik, teas, and “angkot” stickers along with slogan stickers that are once popular with themes of religions, cartoons, comics and others. 

Through this book, Grafis Nusantara wants to document as well as show off assortments of designs and graphics from different regions in Indonesia, giving knowledge, references and also design inspiration for people. 

Moreover, this book acts as an archive that shows the history and development of graphic design in Indonesia from time to time; it can be seen from the composition and typography that shows the trend and technology during that time. With the addition of the language used at that time to represent the social situation at that time.

The first release


Both the platform and the book Grafis Nusantara are initiated by Rakhmat Jaka, a graphic designer and illustrator that is heavily inspired by vintage graphics in Indonesia. There are over 200 labels and stickers that were sold from his personal collection since 2014, which are present in this book. 

The cultivation of the book is also assisted by designer Evan Wijaya, who presents the book as visually interesting.

“This book presents a graphical representation of wealth from various regions in the Indonesian archipelago, which is expected to show new knowledge and become reference material,” said Evan Wijaya in his press release. 

The first release of Grafis Nusantara – Koleksi Label dan Sticker – was released on March 11 both online and offline along with an exhibition held in Footurama, South Jakarta.
