TAYLOR HAWKINS, FOO FIGHTERS' DRUMMER DECEASED AT 50

The world mourned Foo Fighter's drummer, Taylor Hawkins' death. A toxicology test found 10 different substances in his body as the cause of death is yet to be determined.

Foo Fighters' legendary drummer, Taylor Hawkins, died on Friday, March 25, 2022 at the age of 50. His death was reported through their official Twitter account. The band is in the middle of their South American tour, scheduled to play at a festival in Bogota, Colombia on Friday night. 

"His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever,'' said on the band's official Twitter account. "Our hearts go out to his wife, children, and family.''

The authorities are still investigating the cause of his death. On Friday night, Hawkins was reported to have complained of chest pain. Unfortunately, by the time an ambulance arrived, the drummer had already died in his hotel room. According to the Colombia Attorney General’s Officer, an initial toxicology test revealed that there were 10 different substances in his body, including THC (marijuana), antidepressants, benzodiazepines, and opioids. 

Taylor Hawkins had played with the Foo Fighters since 1997, when he was recruited by lead singer and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl. He played on some of the band’s successful albums like “One by One” and “On Your Honor,” and on hit singles like “My Hero” and “Best of You.”

Tributes to Taylor Hawkins

As the news of his death was published, fans paid tribute to Hawkins through their social media. Taylor Hawkins is one of the trending topics on Twitter, with most of its users mourning over his passing with videos and pictures of the late drummer. 

Musicians also paid tribute to Hawkins on their social media. Rage Against the Machine’s guitarist Tom Morello posted a picture of himself with Taylor Hawkins and Jane’s Addiction singer Perry Ferrell on Twitter with the caption “God bless you Taylor Hawkins. I loved your spirit and your unstoppable rock power. Rest In Peace my friend.”   

Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath’s frontman, wrote Hawkins as a “great person and an amazing musician.” Finneas, Billie Eilish’s brother, co-writer and producer, called Hawkins “an incredible talent, who didn’t also need to be so kind and generous and cool but was all those things too anyway. The world was so lucky to have his gifts for the time that it did.” 

Miley Cyrus dedicated the song “Angels Like You” to the late drummer at Lollapalooza Brazil. She also stated on her official Twitter account that “tonight’s show is in honor of her friend Taylor Hawkins. The most badass dude I know who would want me to shine and sing LOUD for the love of rock n roll!”
