In alignment with Indonesia's vision of becoming a "Sovereign, Advanced, and Sustainable Archipelagic Nation" by 2045, Jobstreet by SEEK has launched the #NextMillionJobs initiative. This vision aims to elevate Indonesia's per capita income to that of developed countries and escape the Middle Income Trap (MIT). A primary focus of this initiative is to enhance the competitiveness of Indonesia's productive workforce. Through #NextMillionJobs, Jobstreet by SEEK endeavors to create one million new job opportunities for Indonesian workers, thereby stimulating the national economy.

However, data from the Ministry of Manpower in 2023 indicates significant gaps in the labor market, particularly in the industrial sector, where there is a shortage of skilled workers. At the same time, many graduates struggle to find jobs that match their educational backgrounds. Currently, around 463,000 job vacancies are available throughout Indonesia, underscoring the urgent need for greater access to relevant job information and opportunities.

With the #NextMillionJobs movement, Jobstreet by SEEK aims to broaden access to job information, empower the workforce, and ensure that job seekers have a safe platform for their job search and offers. By fostering collaboration between the government, industry, and job seekers, this initiative is expected to contribute to the creation of an inclusive employment ecosystem that supports the realization of Indonesia's 2045 vision. Additionally, the movement seeks to reduce skill mismatches and promote sustainable economic growth.

“Indonesia's 2045 vision emphasizes enhancing the competitiveness of human resources, developing infrastructure, and leveraging technology to achieve a per capita income of Rp 320 million and a GDP of USD 7 trillion. Employment is crucial for supporting economic growth and competitiveness. Identifying and bridging the skills gap between education and industry is vital. Support for initiatives aimed at creating one million jobs will strengthen collaboration between the government, industry, and education sectors to prepare the workforce for global challenges and contribute positively to national economic growth,” stated Gita Wirjawan, Educator, Entrepreneur, and Indonesia's 27th Minister of Trade.

The Indonesian labor market currently faces complex challenges for both employers and job seekers. Job seekers often encounter difficulties due to unstructured recruitment processes, making it hard for them to obtain accurate, relevant, and safe job information. Meanwhile, employers struggle to find candidates with the necessary qualifications, leading to mismatches between available jobs and the skills of the workforce, negatively impacting recruitment efficiency and workforce absorption.

Therefore, it is crucial for all stakeholders, including Jobstreet by SEEK, to streamline the recruitment process to be efficient, structured, and secure. Utilizing global AI technology from SEEK, Jobstreet by SEEK connects employers and job seekers more accurately, quickly, and safely across eight countries in the Asia-Pacific region. As part of the #NextMillionJobs initiative, which aims to create one million new job vacancies within a year, Jobstreet by SEEK has been offering free job advertisements on a secure platform since June 2024, beginning with regions outside Java.

Varun Mehta, COO of Jobstreet by SEEK, stated, “SEEK is committed to supporting Indonesia's labor market through the Jobstreet by SEEK online platform and our offices in seven cities across Indonesia. SEEK has also invested in AI technology that facilitates relevant job searches and supports efficient recruitment processes. Indonesia is projected to become the largest economy in Southeast Asia, with a population exceeding 280 million, more than 69% of which are of working age, presenting a tremendous opportunity to supply professional labor for national and global needs. Through the #NextMillionJobs initiative, we aim to create one million new job opportunities within a year, providing one million free job ads and collaborating with the government and private sector to accelerate workforce absorption, enhance job opportunities, and support sustainable economic growth toward achieving Indonesia's 2045 vision.”

Through the #NextMillionJobs initiative, Jobstreet by SEEK encourages the public to remain optimistic about the increasing job opportunities across Indonesia. In addition to urging employers to open one job vacancy to boost opportunities, Jobstreet by SEEK invites the community to contribute by sharing job openings with their surroundings, friends, family, or relatives to stimulate the national economy.
