The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) officially launched the Jakarta Muslim Fashion Week (JMFW) 2025 at ICE BSD, Tangerang, on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. The event, held in conjunction with Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) 2024, underscores Indonesia’s ambition to become a global leader in modest fashion, promoting the country’s diverse and innovative fashion industry.

Mardiana Listyowati, Director General of National Export Development at Kemendag, revealed that this year’s JMFW is projected to generate up to USD 3 million in business transactions, equal to IDR 46.8 billion. "The focus of JMFW 2025 is to stimulate business growth. We are aiming for a total of USD 3 million in transactions," Mardiana stated.

Expanding the Reach of Modest Fashion

To achieve these goals, the Ministry has worked closely with Indonesian diplomatic missions and Trade Representatives (Perwadag) abroad to attract international buyers to TEI and JMFW 2025. Countries such as Japan, the United States, Egypt, Australia, and Mexico are among those expected to send potential buyers.

Collaboration, Mardiana noted, is a key factor in JMFW’s success. “This event would not have been possible without the support of various stakeholders. We are grateful for their contributions, which have been essential to creating a thriving ecosystem for modest fashion.”

Indonesia’s Vision as a Modest Fashion Hub

During the opening ceremony, Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan highlighted the uniqueness of Indonesia's modest fashion, pointing out the country's wealth of designs, colors, and styles compared to other nations. He expressed optimism about Indonesia becoming the global center of modest fashion.

"We hope to establish Indonesia as the world’s leading hub for Muslim fashion. The key to achieving this lies in collaboration," Zulkifli said. His remarks reflect the Ministry’s broader ambition to position Indonesia at the forefront of the modest fashion industry, which continues to grow worldwide.

Strengthening Indonesia's Modest Fashion Ecosystem

JMFW 2025 is more than just a fashion event; it represents a concerted effort to strengthen the ecosystem around Indonesia’s modest fashion industry. Through strategic partnerships and events like JMFW, Indonesia aims to showcase its rich cultural heritage, innovation, and creativity on the global stage.

As part of its broader agenda, the Ministry of Trade is not only focusing on fashion but also encouraging the development of Indonesia’s culinary exports through events like Pameran Pangan Nusa, held alongside TEI. However, modest fashion remains a central focus, with JMFW 2025 playing a pivotal role in the nation’s economic and cultural diplomacy.

A Global Stage for Indonesia's Modest Fashion Industry

JMFW 2025 offers a platform for designers and businesses to connect with international markets, with an eye on making Indonesia synonymous with high-quality, innovative modest fashion. Through its rich blend of cultural influence, creative design, and business networking, the event is poised to elevate the country’s fashion industry to new heights.

With a growing demand for modest fashion worldwide, Indonesia’s unique position and vision make it well-placed to become the global leader in this industry, shaping trends and setting new standards for Muslim fashion across the globe.
