Martin, a Houseman at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, has become a beacon of magic in the vibrant hallways of the renowned Disneyland Resort. Martin, a 2017 graduate from Cal Polytechnic University with a hospitality degree, initially sought employment with Disney for its comprehensive benefits. Little did he know that this decision would lead him into a world where providing exceptional service goes hand in hand with creating cherished memories.

“When I joined Disney, I was primarily looking for stability and benefits for my family,” shared Martin. “Little did I know that this journey would ignite a passion for creating magical moments for our guests and cast members.”

"What began as assisting a guest in a wheelchair turned into a heartwarming opportunity to brighten her day. We collaborated to decorate her room for her best friend's birthday, and amid the laughter and decorations, she shared her inspiring story of resilience. Her spirit rekindled my passion as a Disneyland cast member."

Embracing his role as a Houseman since December 2017, Martin has dedicated himself to supporting Room Attendants and engaging in various projects. As he celebrated his fifth year of service in 2022, he discovered a newfound passion for training new cast members.

“I find immense joy in welcoming our new cast to our Disney family. As a Houseperson Trainer, I get to implement the Five Keys to our new cast members, paving the way for them to join the Housekeeping team or another nearby department.”

While harboring aspirations for managerial roles, Martin’s Disney journey has broadened his horizons, presenting diverse opportunities beyond conventional paths. He appreciates the cohesiveness of the work environment and values the culture of appreciation fostered by managers, along with the collective positivity among the team.

"We're creating an environment where helping each other is not just encouraged; it's ingrained in our culture. My favorite part is the coaching – whether it's at my home location or during Step into the Magic, where I can share coaching tips and be an example for new cast members."

Martin has also witnessed a positive shift in the openness and belonging among cast members with the addition of the Inclusion Key.

For Martin, the magic of his day lies in interactions with guests – guiding lost visitors, sharing anecdotes, and learning about their excitement for the park. As a father of two boys, aged nine and thirteen, he particularly appreciates when other cast members engage with his family.

"Being part of The Walt Disney Company is significant to me. Disney symbolizes happiness, whether through movies, TV shows, or the joy of the parks. It's a legacy that Walt Disney started, and we proudly continue. I am proud to say I work at the Disneyland Resort.”
