A Taiko drum beat echoing through a hotel ballroom in Bandung isn't something you see every week. Neither is a DJ mixing anime soundtracks between rounds of a cosplay walk. But that's exactly what happened on July 23, 2026, when Archipelago Hotels turned Hotel Neo Kota Baru Parahyangan into a pop-up slice of Tokyo and the smell of grilled Wagyu and fresh Takoyaki batter was doing a lot of the talking.

60 Seconds to Tokyo is Archipelago Hotels' new Japanese street food campaign, launched under its Archipelago Global Flavours Series. It runs from July through December 2026 across 139 Archipelago-managed properties nationwide spanning brands like Aston, Alana, Harper, Quest, Hotel Neo, and favehotel. Guests can order the Japan-themed menu through dine-in, room service, or delivery, no plane ticket required.

What Exactly Is 60 Seconds to Tokyo?

The campaign is the second chapter of Archipelago's global flavours concept, following the Korean-themed 60 Seconds to Seoul, which ran from January to June 2026. Every six months, the brand picks a new city and builds a menu, a mascot story, and a live event around it. This round, Tokyo's street food culture  fast, precise, and built for eating on the move  is the theme, fronted by two campaign characters: Ren, who is Indonesian-Japanese, and Reina, a Japanese woman based in Indonesia.

The national launch event happened at Noodles Now Restaurant and the ballroom of Hotel Neo Kota Baru Parahyangan in Bandung, pulling in nine Archipelago properties across West Java, Jakarta, and Banten  including Harper M.T. Haryono Jakarta, Aston Serang Hotel & Convention Center, Grand Aston Puncak Hotel & Resort, and Harper Cikarang, among others.

At a Glance

  • 139 Archipelago hotels nationwide running the campaign
  • 9 hotels in West Java, Jakarta, and Banten behind the Bandung launch
  • July–December 2026 campaign duration
  • 33% of Indonesian travelers pick Japan as their top overseas destination (SiteMinder, 2025)

Why Did Archipelago Pick Japan This Time?
The choice isn't random. According to SiteMinder's Changing Traveller Report 2025, Japan is the most-wanted overseas destination for Indonesian travelers, chosen by a third of respondents. Japan National Tourism Organization data backs that up: Indonesian arrivals to Japan hit 558,900 between January and November 2025 alone, a 26.3% jump from the year before. Archipelago is essentially betting on an obsession that's already there.

What's Actually on the Menu?
The signature lineup leans into Tokyo's fast-food identity rather than fine dining: Wagyu Burger, Hambagu (Japanese-style hamburger steak), and Menchi Katsu headline the mains, alongside Takoyaki and tempura. On the drinks side, there's Sakura Sunset and Hojicha Latte, while dessert comes down to a choice between Kuromitsu Matcha Puff and Japanese Cotton Cheesecake  both riding Indonesia's ongoing matcha wave.

"Through 60 Seconds to Tokyo, we want to bring not just the taste, but the spirit and dynamic atmosphere of Tokyo's food culture to our guests," said John Flood, CEO of Archipelago Hotels.

More Than Just Food
The Bandung launch wasn't a quiet menu tasting. It had a Tokyo-themed photo corner styled after manga panels and Japanese newspaper print, a cosplay walk featuring popular anime characters, a Japanese idol dance performance, a live Taiko drum set, and a DJ running through J-Pop, anime soundtracks, and electronic tracks. Bintang Adhipradipta, General Manager of Hotel Neo Kota Baru Parahyangan, called it a point of pride for the property to host a festival of this scale.

Here's the part most people miss: this isn't a one-night event. It's a six-month menu rollout across more Archipelago hotels than most Indonesians could name off the top of their head  which means the Takoyaki you had at a Bandung festival could show up at your hotel pool bar in Bali, Medan, or Yogyakarta before December.
